Hi!

This is my first new topic I've made.  I've been a lurker for about two years.  So if this isn't something that's topic worthy then I apologize.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever heard this.  On Amusement Park USA, at around the 1:35 mark, the announcer voice seems to say something like "She's got the biggest a** in town" or "She's got the biggest a** around" in reference to Stella the Snakedancer.  This happens as the voice is fading out so it's hard to make out.

Am I dead wrong or do you hear this too?

It's been accepted around these parts that he's saying "asp."

It's a pun.

Oh.  I hadn't realized that this had been discussed previously.  I guess my search wasn't exhaustive enough.

I don't really get the pun.

Since when is "ass" considered an explicit word?

An asp is a snake and she is a snake dancer...this pun is referenced in AGD's Complete Guide

It was explicit for TV and recordings in 1965. Just like Brian telling Hal "Don't say puss". Or like the record company thinking the song I'm Gonna Hustle You was too risqué for 1963.

The Brianista Prayer

Oh Brian
Thou Art In Hawthorne,
Harmonied Be Thy name
Your Kingdom Come,
Your Steak Well Done,
On Stage As It Is In Studio,
Give Us This Day, Our Shortenin' Bread
And Forgive Us Our Bootlegs,
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.
Amen.  ---hypehat

I invariably hear swearing when I hear Amusement Parks USA - from my own mouth, as I reach for the "next track" button.

It's a pun because he says asp but a person could mistake it for ass, as indeed you did.

I never noticed it, but if I had....well, I had no idea what an asp is.

I'm amazed, and a little shocked, that folk here seemingly lack even the most basic knowledge of Cleopatra, queen of Eqypt.

Yes, and I always imagined Hal's voice abruptly cutting off the way it does is Brian's joke. Sort of an "oops, he said a bad word" thing.
