Carl Wilson Cd
«
on:
August 09, 2013, 03:05:00 PM »
is there any news or rumours about Carls first album ever seeing a reissue on CD?
im glad to have Youngblood, but don't particularly want for fork out a couple hundred dollars for an old Japanese press.....
is there some licensing issues with the album delaying a new CD release?
Cheers, Rick Bartlett

Probably a lack of interest. Sony still technically owns the rights but doesn't seem interested in licensing the 1981 album for release.

I'm not sure why Iconoclassic re-issued Carl's second album and not the first one a couple of years ago. With exception to two or three songs on Youngblood, his first effort gets the nod from me.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

They could have easily done a two-fer.

wow?.... lack of interest?..... and there would have been more interest in releasing 'youngblood'
what makes 'youngblood' standout over his first solo album?...
I cant figure that........I think both are very good albums....... perhaps not great! as such, but still worthy of a release.....
I wonder how the sales went for 'youngblood'...?..... probably didn't sell well...... hence another reason not to release his first solo...
shame really.......

Yep! Got my vinyl signed by good ol' Carl. I STILL wish to hell he would have been around for the C50. I think he woulda ate it up.

I thought there was a issue about who had rights to it. The self titled album says Brother/Caribou, while Youngblood was just Caribou.

Brother/Caribou........
does that mean both companies are merged, or one can't release an album without the others consent?....
im baffled a bit by how that all works....
is 'Brother' the company owned and run by The Beach Boys still? if so, then wouldn't that make it easier to release than say something owned by Capitol??.
or am I off the whole path completely?....
I notice 'summer in paradise' is also released on 'Brother'..... does that fit into a similar box, or again, another album that
has little or NO demand...... seems everyone hates it so much........ while I dig it! I would buy a reissue, throw in a couple of bonus tracks...whalla!!

SIP was Brother Entertainment. Probably a part of BRI, but I can't say for sure. Brother Records is still owned by BRI. So, if the self titled album was Brother/Caribou, then Brother must have some ownership of it. The fact that Youngblood does not have a Brother logo suggests that only Caribou has control of that title.

Confirmed by the Iconoclassic guy:
"Thanks for all the input. We also really like the first Carl Wilson album and would love to have put it out along with "Youngblood" but the company that we attempted to license it from no longer owns the rights".
Probably Sony.

I remember Carl promoting the album on SOLID GOLD. (I think.) "Hold Me" and "Heaven" went down OK with me. Have not heard the entire album.

I like both albums, but Youngblood was way more developed and more fully realized. There were a lot more potential singles on there.

I agree. The first one was almost like a demo, underproduced. Youngblood seemed to have had a lot more effort put into it. I never will figure out how songs like Givin' You Up, One More Night Alone or Of the Times didn't become huge hits, other than lack of promotion.

Sadly, usually lack of promotion is all it usually takes for good music to not be recognized.

I'm with Mikie here. The second one verged dangerously close to overproduced AOR territory
