A friend mentioned to me that this agency is handling some of his stuff, and when I went to check them out I did a search for The Boys'.  Look what came up:

That he does, but you gotta' love the pants!  Dennis had a pair of coveralls just like those, more than likely made by the same girl

The Pants!  The shirt/jacket( looks a bit like an old army fatigue jacket) The pale face/dark glasses/fro
reminds me of the classic groom/best man shot at a wedding

Something might be wrong with that June, 1971 date with Carli.

1. In June, 1971 they were touring the East coast and NorthEast U.S. They did a gig in Louisiana, but with exception to a few studio sessions at Sunset in L.A. in early June for the Surf's Up album, they didn't come back out to the West coast to do concerts until mid December of that year. And if it's Berkeley, the only venue would have been the Greek Theatre. There are a few holes in the June itinerary, but it seems more logical to me that all of the gigs with Graham from 1971 through 1973 would have been at Winterland, in San Francisco, not in Berkeley.

2. Though Wiki says Carli was a backup member of the band beginning in 1970, I don't see him listed as a musician until early 1973. But Carli says Carl called him to play Hammond organ and piano "later in 1971" so that's what evidently transpired.

3. Jack Rieley was their manager during this period, obviously. He even went on the road with the band for some gigs. Jack and Carli were good friends, but Carli was never the Beach Boys manager.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

So which manager is he playing, Murry or Jack?

In keeping with the other casting choices, it's got to be Murry, right?

Carli initially joined the BBs band as percussionist, around mid-'71.  He can be seen in that role in the Central Park footage from that year.  He was gone by that fall, but returned as keyboardist, taking over from Daryl Dragon, probably early '73 (or maybe very late '72, but Daryl was still there for the November '72 Carnegie Hall gigs).

Oh, and perhaps he served the role of "road manager", or co-road manager?

This was a totally tongue-in-cheek posting...  I couldn't believe the absurdity of the photo agency listing this photo as him being their manager.  I'm certain that I just read a story in Ian & Jon's great new book, (recounted by Bobby Figueroa), about Bill Graham presenting them with alarm clocks, after Dennis showed up late for a gig.  I'm also pretty sure Bill gave them real expensive wrist watches before a gig, too, and that's probably what he & Carli are talking about in this photo.  I also posted it because of that outfit he's wearing!

Carli didn't ever act in any way as the bands manager, although he did often handle bookings for Main Squeeze, the side band he had with Ricky Fataar, Ricci Martin, Billy Hinsche, Wayne Tweed, Sammy Clayton & Steve Ross - a band that blew the roof off quite a few venues around Southern California.  Dennis & I were always there, cheering them on.

He is hands down one of the greatest cats I've ever been fortunate enough to call a friend, and I often would position myself to shoot photos of The Beach Boys near a monitor that favored his keyboards in the mix.  There's more than one reason Dennis chose him to collaborate with on Bambu

Btw, two more interesting photos here that I don't recall seeing before, the first with Brian & Landy  http://cacheagency.com/scripts/IF/if.cgi?action=view&link=Contributors/Mark_Sullivan&image=Brian_Wilson_MS_003.ifz&img=50&search=Beach&cat=all&tt=ifz&bool=phrase   and the second of The Boys with Muhammad Ali  http://cacheagency.com/scripts/IF/if.cgi?action=view&link=Contributors/Ebet_Roberts&image=Beach_Boys_ER_CN88-24-20.ifz&img=0&search=Beach&cat=all&tt=ifz&bool=phrase
