Because, sorry Swedish Frog, I love you, but your implementation is crap. It's only up when you're up, you have to sign up, it's a terrible interface, and IRC is a tried and true technology with tons of users and years of experience.

This is the only tricky bit. You can use mibbit, which can be accessed by clicking
here.Otherwise, download an IRC client. There are tons and tons for every operating system for users from all knowledge levels. Ask around, do some googling. I use irssi. I can also recommend HexChat (if you use Windows) and Colloquy (for Macs).
A client is the recommended way of accessing the channel.
