Pretty cool...which I could afford this...

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/brian-wilson-jeff-beck-to-lead-rock-roll-fantasy-camp-20130227

Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck will be the star attractions this spring at Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas, where campers will learn songwriting and performance tips from the Beach Boys co-founder and the legendary guitarist. The camp takes place from April 18th-21st at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino and the camp's facility west of the Strip.

In addition to working on and recording music, campers will perform at MGM Grand's Rouge Lounge at the end of the four-day session. They'll also get a special private performance by Wilson.

Attendees can bring their own instruments, or use gear provided by the camp. Instruments aren't a must, as attendees can also work on their vocal chops. Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp also has a session March 5th-9th featuring Sammy Hagar and Steve Vai, and a Def Leppard Fantasy Camp happening April 4th- 7th. For more information, visit Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp's website.

Hmmm, maybe we shouldn't have moved back from Vegas to Texas.  Nahhh, saw him at the Red Rock Casino there in May, that will hold me for a while. But it does sound like fun.

Didn't he do this last year or the year before? I remember some video of him singing California Girls with some dudes grinning their asses off. And not the usual ones.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Jeff Foskett will also be serving as music director for the camp and Billy Hinsche will be a counselor.

Almost $1700 for it. That plus the plane ticket, then throw in the  cost of hotel rental... yeah, short of me getting something via Kickstarter, I can't do it. Sad

It kinda sucks to be a Beach Boys fan, especially now, when the funds aren't too cool. Undecided

Brians been involved in this a few years and I feel its sad for all involved. Musicians who were big back in the day and students who are going no where but haven't realised it yet. Rock and Roll Trekkies for want of a better term.

To each his own I guess. I may be talentless but at least I know it! Grin

edit...

Found this from 2007 on the same subject. Unlikely Brians attitude has changed much.

Brian at last years camp.

Brian at 2min 30 a riot.

1 Possitive comment on performance...check.
2 Picture with group...check.
3 Sign autograghs...check.
4 Out of there, (pick-up check)...check. Grin

BTW. My kids group of 12 year olds sound better and it didn't cost me 8 clams! Razz

Well, when it comes to BB's related figures in their educational role....

When I lived in the LA area in 1989 and Van Dyke Parks was still living in a little cul-de-sac off Melrose and Western, I heard that he was partly making ends meet by offering lessons in piano, accordion, songwriting, and arranging. The figure I heard he charged was $25 an hour for learning how to play, $40 an hour for learning how to write songs and arrange stuff.  (At that time the scoring/arranging work he did for movies and TV was still a little sparse; it started to pick up a year or so later.)

That was no Fantasy Camp setup - you would have been right at the keyboard, mano a mano. Plus he probably would have fixed you lunch - one often hears of VDP's skills in the kitchen.  Hard to figure out now why I didn't sign up. Probably because it would have cut into my time nursing my chili and Thai peanut slaw and reading magazines down at that Farmers Market eatery, the name of which escapes me now. Dopey decision.

And about a decade later, on the other side of the country, it turns out that Tandyn Almer was sitting down many a time with lucky music students at Northern Virginia Community College and giving them tips on composing and arranging - for free! (Well, apart from the tuition they were paying to be at a place where he'd stop by and kibitz.)

That will set you back around $10,000 if you include a moderate priced hotel room and the recording package. Whew. Some people with more dollars than sense.  Roll Eyes

Well, I'll be hanging around MGM Grand on those days but I won't be paying $1700. By the way, their CSI exhibit was totally lame but since I got to go free with my son's field trip I shouldn't complain. But to think that would have cost $40 a person???!!

I don't know where you're getting $1700 from. Actual price: $6500!  Shocked
