Interesting choice, why Dandelion? Just curious to know, because The Rolling guys have such a variety of material & of all the songs 3 of you simultaneously happened to like Dandelion seems quite odd, tbh. So, it'd be nice if you said what's the deal with that exact song. Anyway, other songs are great, pretty much indicate that your folks (and you) have good taste in music.
Thanks alot I appreciate the compliments
Well it's a song that I remember quite vividly from my childhood. My dad and mom used to sing it to me when I was in her belly. (They were both hippies and part of the flower movement so maybe that's why it was "Dandelion" lol) My dad is a huge rolling stones fan and likes everything they did so he made sure that as a child I knew much of their music because my mother was going to fill me up with beatles anyways.
I guess he got the best of both worlds. (Dad & Rolling Stones...Mom & Beatles)

I wouldn't be able to answer this without conducting a survey. for the purpose of the thread, I will define "family" to me, as me, my brother and sister, and my parents.
I like a lot of old music, and therefore have a large overlap with my parents, but I'm not sure what my brother and sister think of perennial parent favorites like the Grateful Dead or the Allman Brothers.
My mother, from driving my siblings around in the car for years, picked up a taste for 90s/00s youth music, so she likes Catch 22, Belle & Sebastian, Cake, Bright Eyes, and so on. But I don't know how my dad feels about those.

Wow, Newguy, that's a very fascinating story! Do your folks fight? Since there's a long-lasting battle between The RS fans & The Beatles fans. Jk.
2Aegir: Do your brother & sister like the 60s bands? Or they listen only to modern or nearly modern artists? Quite interesting that your mother got into modern stuff. Seriously, it's like the 1st time I hear this! From what I know & observed, it's vice versa & adults like
only
the music of their generation & have a low opinion of their children's musical taste. Anyway, you've got a very cool & unconventional mother!
Most of their fights aren't music related
lol..My mother and father are complete opposites ..she's a mainstream fan and he's more into experimental stuff..let's just put it like this..my mother loves Today/All Summer Long and my father loves Pet Sounds/Smile
Well my oldest brother is into everything but mostly hiphop and reggae and my middle brother is into rap (not hiphop but rap ..that sh*t that's mostly about money, cars & b*tches Smh!!!)
When I have children I'll definitely play them music that I enjoyed as a child but I won't try to force it on them. I used to hate when my dad would make me listen to Nirvana/The Cure but now I love Nirvana so I thank him for that.
I'm into some modern artists like Kid Cudi,MGMT,Radiohead but I'm mostly into 50's,60's,70's era music.

God, this is impossible. My older brother has the taste of a 14 year old and hates what I listen to, my mum listens to the awful 70's station constantly and hates what my dad listens to, my dad listens to P-Funk, Kraftwerk and Brazillian music and hates what we listen to, and my sister likes everything to some extent bar odd exceptions.
Stevie Wonder might fit the bill, but IDK. People be having varying tastes and (more importantly) attitudes to music.
Madness. I think we all like Madness.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.

They're hardly the cutting edge of ska though, like The Special AKA or The Beat or the Jamaican bands - more the poppier, funnier, side. And they are pretty much an institution in Britain - they performed on the roof of Buckingham Palace during the Jubilee this year! I mean, it was the first thing that sprang to mind tbh. There might be a few other things we can enjoy.

What type of music do your parents listen to?
Yep, I remember that topic about ASL/T vs. PS/S. Am I right & you're the youngest son & only you happen to like an old music? If so, you're lucky since it's quite rare nowadays when current generation likes this kind of music. Btw, as you listed the 50s, which artists do you like from that decade? Are you a fan of Elvis Presley? Me not. Do you like jazz? You like Nirvana? Well, I respect your taste, of course, but I don't like Kurt's voice. It's very weak IMO. Plus, it's just not my type of music.
My mother likes mainly the 70s artists. Her favorite group is The Eagles. She also is a fan of 70s works of Cat Stevens. I don't even know who it is. She hates The Rolling Stones & esp. Mick Jagger, said that he's got one of the worst voices ever. Which I strongly disagree with. Off the Beatles she thought that Eleanor Rigby is an only good song. As for my father, he also likes the 70s music mostly, but usually he doesn't pay attention to the times when it comes to listening to the music. He likes The Beatles, f.ex., or Creedence Clearwater Revival.
But neither of them likes The BBs. I gave each of them listening to the band & nothing was to their taste, not even a single song. And what about your folks? Do they like The BBs? What tracks? Thanks in advance.
Well my older bro loves oldies and 60's music but not as much as I do.
Well I enjoy Elvis,Chuck Berry,Paul Anka,Ricky Nelson, etc. you? My father wants to get me into Jazz we just haven't gotten into it yet but I'm very interested in checking out a few artists...Miles Davis is definitely one of them that sparks my interest. I can understnad that it wasn't my type of music when i was younger but I somehow grew fond of it as I got older.
Wow funny you say that the Eagles are my mother's 2nd favorite group of all time and she went to many of their concerts and showed me pictures and stuff.
That's another group we had playing at the house in my childhood years.
Worst voices? I'll have to disagree on that too his voice and their music moves me in a way not even the beach boys/beatles could. Whenever I heard favorites like Silver Train,Mercy Mercy,My Obsession it seriously makes me want to get up and dance or work out. (I'm horrible at dancing but their music moves me.) So much attitude and I love how their playing and his singing sounds a little sloppy...I really appreciate those little imperfections.

From the 50s I enjoy Little Richard, Elmore James, Harry Belafonte, Perry Como, some grains of Frank Sinatra, The Coasters, Modern Jazz Quartet & some others.
So you want to say that Mick Jagger/The Rolling Stones are more to your liking than The BBs? You are traitor! Jk. Btw, did you know My Obsession is Brian's fave song of The RS? He even was on the recording sessions of it. Well said about little imperfections, I like them too! I also like some weird music.
Anyway, my favorite songs by The Rolling Stones are You Better Move On (it's just so beautiful!), 2,000 Light Years From Home, Out of Time (long v-n), Under My Thumb (that marimba!), Something Happened To Me Yesterday (great marching orchestration!), She's A Rainbow (magical!), Tell Me (long v-n), Time Is On My Side, The Singer Not The Song, Gotta Get Away, Blue Turns to Grey, Backstreet Girl, It's All Over Now, Carol, Play with Fire, Off The Hook, I'm Moving On (live), Factory Girl, Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby (if only for that epic guitar ending!), Sweet Black Angel etc. etc. Do you like any of these?
Thanks for the stories, Newguy, you're a good story-teller!
Oh sh*t i forgot all about the Coasters...Thanks for reminding me they are awesome as hell and definitely one of the groups from the 50's I enjoy.(You have great taste.)
I actually prefer the BB's because the harmonies and Brian's voice makes me melt...Not many artist/groups could give me goosebumps like the BB's...They are right behind the Beatles for me and in my top 3. It's funny because whenever I ask the boys what's their top 3 albums they'll say sh*t like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (Kanye West), Taylor Allderdice (Wiz Khalifa) or something else modern but they all know how much I love Pet Sounds. They actually went to listen to that album to see what it is about it that has me so obsessed with the BB's. (They still don't get it but they don't listen to/ appreciate music the way I do so it's understandable.)
Wow You just listed many of my father's favorites...My mom's favorite is Blue turns to grey..and my father's is Can't You Hear Me Knocking...Mines is Silver Train and my top 3 albums by RS are Aftermath,Goats Head Soup & Beggar's Banquet..I can listen to all of those all the way through without skipping a track...I love getting ready for work while the Stones are blasting from my computer it just starts the day on a great note. (Yes I love most of those songs but the top 3 from your choices are BackStreet Girl...It's refreshing to hear Mick sing so softly...She's a Rainbow (It takes me to a far away place whenever I hear that song I close my eyes and let the music guide me there...and gotta get away because it reminds me of my mom and it makes cheers me up when I'm in a a bad mood.)

You're welcome, Newguy. I like The Coasters' v-n of Yakety Yak. It's the one fun song, very sunny & positive! Love it!
The BBs give me goosebumps too! Their singing - either individually or in the harmonies - is so beautiful, the best vocal group hands down!
Your folks have great taste, need to say. My Top-3 albums by The RS are Exile on Main St., December's Children & Their Satanic Majesties Request. But the ones you listed are good too. Beggar's Banquet is in my Top-5 definitely. My faves are Factory Girl, Dear Doctor, Prodigal Son (impeccable voice imitation from Mick here!), No Expectations & Salt of the Earth. What yours (I know that you like every track but still, tell me what your most favorite tracks on B's B)? Btw, had you seen the band's R'n'R Circus? It's some groovy concert!
Those are good choices! I agree with every description you gave to Backstreet Girl etc.
Btw, a very happy Christmas & New Year to you & your family! Hope the 2013 year would be loaded with good things for you.
You seriously have incredible taste in music..I'm sure many songs I love you'd really enjoy.
(I'm definitely going to recommend a few songs for you to check out k.)
My top 3 from BB are Street Fighting Man (That song really pumps me up and just the meaning behind it all makes it even more special and a favorite of theirs.),Factory Girl & Dear Doctor (At first I thought this was a horrible song and just couldn't get into it but after I started getting into country it made me appreciate it more plus it's very humorous.) I never seen that ..What is it concert footage or something?
Merry X-mas (I'm all late lol) I hope you and your family had a great X-mas and a happy new year as well.
What have you been listening to as of lately?
This song has been on constant replay for me. (The ending gives me chills so when you have the time please listen to it all the way through and let me know what you think of it.)
