Hey all,

You guys should check out Zoom Jukebox Series - Volume 21 on Spotify, if you ever want to practice singing The Beach Boys Karaoke style. They only have "Add Some Music" & "Breakaway" actually, but the backing tracks/vocals are the best I've ever heard for karaoke. There's some other gems you can find on Spotify, too.

So, have you ever done a random BB tune at the bar? What were the reactions? My buddy and I did Heroes & Villains last winter and I think we nailed it! Such a fun song to do!

I've attempted H&V as well. DJ said I was the only person he'd ever seen attempt the song.

I'm not much of a singer, so it probably didn't go over that well. Plus, I tried to insert random unused Smile-era lyrics, which only added to the confusion.

A buddy and I also murdered "Sail on Sailor" once....

I'd attempt others but the DJ's selection is rather lame.

Yeah, we were hoping for the "cantina" version, which never came. Should have known better, but there was alcohol involved. I've also done SOS before, and what I thought was cool about that was some older guy w/a Foo Fighters shirt came up to me and asked who sang it.

I've sung Darlin', God Only Knows, Sloop John B and Sail on Sailor. Did well on those. Tried H&V....boy, is that thing difficult to sing! Never again...at least not in front of friends!

I've only ever done "God Only Knows" with the help of some whiskey.
What amazed me about this was that (and bearing in mind I sung this at a karaoke night at a club aimed at people my age, 18-25 or whatever) when it reached the middle section and the tag at the end quite a few of the other people at the club joined in, which despite being rather... tuneless, was an amazing feeling Smiley

I've done quite a few.  On my first date with my wife (we were with mutual friends) I did "Help Me, Rhonda".  The ironic part was that I had just gotten out of a bad relationship and the girl who would "help me get her out of my heart" was there (I just didn't know it, yet)!  My wife's name is Kristina, however!

There are some that are truly difficult to sing.  The trick is to sing them in your natural register...don't try and hit the Brian-falsetto...but sing whatever works for you...because it's all about the words and how you present them!

"You wanna have the '409' sound, right?  On 'Help Me, Rhonda'?"

"Honkin' down the gosh-darned highway..."

"Cried so hard...teardrops on my bed...COME ON MUTHAF*****S!"

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I vote WIBN as definitely one of the toughest BB vocals to sing, if not THE toughest.  Sloop John B is fun, I like doing California Girls as well and Dance Dance Dance.
