COMMENT:

Watching this sweet, gentle Lab, together with Carnie and Brian's compassionate and sensitive singing . . . just so precious.

Smiley Dennis and Carnie (or Marilyn) duet would have been awesome, though..

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Aww, I thought it was going to be a segment on celebrity pet owners, with Brian showing off his 28 dogs along with Carnie showing off her menagerie. Nice, though.

COMMENT:  I got mixed up on my initial post because the first time I recorded this song it was with Dennis singing the song. We worked on it for some time, always with him singing. Nothing came of the recordings that Dennis made, only that they were stuck in my memory, along with hearing him sing it many times in concert. But this production with Brian and Carnie, used for this video setting, brings out the qualities that IMHO Dennis was trying to accomplish. So when I found this video, I thought I would share it for what it is and for how it makes me feel. Whoever made the video was right on.

Animals are good companions for that use because they don't judge. When people see someone of "limited ability" when they see a kid who looks like that little boy in the video, the dog just sees another friendly kid.

I also think the Brian/Carnie version of that song works well with the subject of that video. When Joe C. sang it (or even if Dennis Wilson sang it), it seems like a love song to a woman. When Brian and Carnie sing it, it's a love song from father to daughter and vice verse, but it's also two people who were outcasts at times (Brian and his afflictions, Carnie and her weight problems) singing to each other.  It's vulnerable and moving and their voices fit that sweet little video.

Never knew that he tried it in the studio. Cool story!
I like Carnie & Brian's version, too. I believe it was on her "Lullaby"-CD along with "Forever" featuring Marylin but I'm not totally sure.
Thanks for the link!

Beautiful, Mr. Desper...it's these straight-ahead, human moments that make the BB's music stand out from everyone else's by touching reservoirs of emotion that are rarely tapped by anyone else. As you note, a wonderful job by the videographer in matching the music and visuals. Thanks much for sharing with us, and we are all anxiously awaiting the second edition of your book!

This articulates some of the contradictions of the United States quite well - a nation capable of stomach-turning mawkish sentimentality, but also genuine compassion and creativity.

As the other poster said, 'Nice video with unnecessary text. I would have just let the images speak for themselves.'
