Dave's vocals on the C50 tour
«

I'm bored, so I was cruising Wikipedia and I came across this on the David Marks entry:
"Marks has even taken over lead vocal duties on a few songs during the anniversary tour including "Hawaii", "Don't Back Down" and "Getcha Back"."
I knew he sang Getcha Back, but did he really sing lead on the other two? A quick scan of Youtube brings up squat. I'd be interested to hear him doing Hawaii and Don't Back Down, I like Dave's voice a lot. He should have had another lead or two on the tour, IMO.

I definitely remember "Hawaii". I'm not sure about the last one but I'm sure someone will chime in shortly. I only answered with half the info because I'm as bored as you.

I had a knowingly unrealistic and naive hope that maybe they would give a spotlight to Pacific Ocean Blue and have Dave sing one of the songs, as he has at solo shows. Or at least have him take over "Forever" at the screen-less shows.

Hey, half an answer is better than no answer, thanks for confirming at least one of the songs. And there are far worse things to do than discuss Beach Boys minutiae when you're bored.

That would have been very cool and a great tribute to Dennis. Not that the version they did of Forever wasn't, but you catch my drift.

I don' t get why Mike started doing 'Hawaii' after Dave started doing 'Getcha Back'. Why not let Dave do both?!

I think it would have been pretty badass if Dave had sung lead on Sail On Sailor. (And Al on H&V, but that`s for another thread.)

Did Mike sing Getcha Back at all on this tour? The last couple M&B shows I've seen, I think Christian sang it. I had assumed Mike stopped singing that one for good (for whatever reason.)

Yeah, Mike stopped singing it. He's said that he never liked his vocal on that song.
As to Dave taking more lead vocals, I suspect that someone (no idea who) thought his voice didn't fit -- at at least two of the three shows I saw, I think his mic was turned off for every song except his single lead vocal, In My Room and Surfer Girl. (I can't guarantee it was *every* other song, but I never heard him in the vocal stack, and on more than one occasion I saw him come in in the wrong place on a song when no vocals at all were audible.)

...which I really don't understand! He sang it very well in the early 2000s. The 2004 Newcastle show comes to mind. I wonder if this is why he doesn't sing "Wendy" in live settings as well?

Re: Getcha Back, Mike mentioned that he wrote it for Dennis and that's why he gave it to David during the reunion tour.

I'm glad Dave got to do a lead during the shows. I think it was to remind us that over 50 years
any
band member could cut it, unlike most groups then and now.

At the show I saw, the only spot I am sure David could be heard on bg vox was on When I Grow Up, the counting up. That was IMHO the same voice as the lead on "Getcha Back". Can't say anything about the other tunes regarding Dave's voice.
