Yeah. Thank God we have the Concert! LP to remind us what they really sounded like live without any studio trickery or overdubs.  Roll Eyes

Seriously folks, I think it's great to have this. To hear the guys' voices and blend one more time. Did we dream of this a year ago?

Watching a polished film showing rednecks dancing to a faded Myke Luvh vocal won't do much for me.

Live In London is, to me, their best live album by leaps and bounds. There are no studio overdubs on it.

The whole album just knocks me on my ass, and it's such a huge testament to the skills of the other guys. Denny couldn't drum? They needed session musicians because they weren't very good by themselves? They were worthless without Brian? My fucking ass.

The only thing that bothers me about that album is how Wouldn't It Be Nice and California Girls are cut down a little bit, I guess for time.  They're not bad performances but they feel a little incomplete.  I wonder if that's the way they played them in the concert or if they were just edited for the album.

The "California Girls" intro was edited because Mike sings an "amusing" high note and then says "Thank you, music lovers" during that part. Why they couldn't just leave it or pot Mike down (it'd still be somewhat audible, but come on) is beyond me.

I can't recall any edits to "WIBN" offhand, but I will say the whole "HURR DUR THE NAME OF THIS SONG IS... !!!!!!!" intro thing was dumber than a football bat. I wish someone would have given Bruce acid before the show so he would have introduced every song like that (that's what you do when you're on acid, intro songs).

AFAIK they omitted the live ritardando at least until their March '71 appearance on David Frost.

Of course, Wikipedia knows best...

-In the Hebrew numbering system, the number 15 is not written according to the usual method, with the letters that represent "10" and "5" (י-ה, yodh and heh), because those spell out one of the Jewish names of God.

-The number corresponding to The Devil in tarot cards.

-The number of guns in a gun salute to Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force Lieutenant Generals, and Navy and Coast Guard Vice Admirals.

-The atomic number of phosphorus.

-In some countries it is the legal age for sexual intercourse.

Try this:

I think it's pretty interesting that there seems to be a 2 disc version, at least for the DVD, with some bonus footage (Doin' It Again doc I guess).

The live version of "Aren't You Glad" just shows how badly the "Wild Honey" album was produced. While the versions of older songs are good, but not quite as good as the studio versions, "Aren't You Glad" makes the studio version seem pale and lame.

Thanks, but I already knew JPC.de and it doesn't offer any information on RC or PAL whatsoever (which probably means it's the same NTSC DVD listed on amazon).  Undecided And I can't find that 2-disc DVD there, either.  Lips Sealed

My cash is short and Christmas is coming so i'll be waiting on the Smiley Smile verdict before buying this. The trailer sounds terrible., Mike especially on Fun Fun Fun , vocals tampered with to disastrous effect. Not hopeful.

The YouTube video from the first row at Albert Hall is much better, real and atmospheric !

Bubba, you're treating it like this sounds like every other concert DVD ever. That's not true at all. Even compared to other beach boys / brian releases (It's OK, Knebworth, Pet Sounds Live, BWPS), this sounds radically different. So yes, i expect brian to be singing offkey. He's been doing it publicly for the past 37 years and they only started really trying to hide it on this tour.

I think the production is pretty good. The problem is that they didn't have/use a proper studio. Same production but recorded at Western would've done better imo

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
