Next Mike and Bruce tour booked?!
«
on:

Any dates confirmed or posted anywhere? Im praying for another tour with all five guys. That night in Pittsburgh was THE greatest concert I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. The magic they captured on stage and on TWGMTR is something not often obtained. With that being said, can it happen again? Or should they just do their own thing and let this be TBB's final statement. I am legitimately intrigued/concerned about another possible "reunion" or any info on these alleged Mike and Bruce shows.

P.S. I'm not trying to start some "Why does Brian sing out of the corner of his mouth" thread. I'm actually very curious if anyone has any info about this.

Yes there will be another Beach Boys tour with just Mike and Bruce. As expected, everyone is pissy about it. They'd rather see Brian tour until he drops dead, on stage.

I don't mind a fall/winter/spring M/B tour but I'm not sure another summer tour will kill Brian. Hell, I bet deep down Brian really does want to do new music with the boys. If he doesn't come back I'm sure he'll resume his solo career but regardless, I don't see Brian stopping anytime soon. A #3 album, enough cash to use as toilet paper and real validation by today's youth (16-22) instead of them getting viewed as a cheesefest. Sounds like enough of a reason for a new album and accompanying summer tour.

Hell, I wouldn`t mind the 4 of them minus Brian using the MandB band.

I could see that! I actually really like Christians voice, probably the best voice of the BB children. Him doing some Carl parts on the tour would of been cool!

Any tour, with any combination of members that keeps the BB brand popular and continues to sell albums is fine with me, as long as they continue to record BB albums. They can do the full band when albums come out, for TV shows, etc., but a smaller touring grouping can promote the name while studio work and song writing continues.

I don't think another tour with all the guys wouldn't be as succesfull as this current one if they do it next year or the year after that. And really, how many years can they plan ahead ? There's a certain saturation right now and after the tour. Plus I can't see the band playing smaller venues like Mike and Bruce often do. That would be very stressfull though and if their health stays up we don't know.
Also this reunion is about being happy to go on stage together, etc. When it becomes "normal" again you can bet that also some quarrel will appear. This time I'm with Bruce, these boys touring together again is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
If everything is fine and the points I mentioned above are causeless another common project would (hopefully) be a pleasure, though.

After going to the Epsom show last year, I would happily go to another Mike and Bruce show. It was so fun.
Any news on whether they are actually doing this and if they have any international dates?

I would very happily go and see Mike & Bruce any time they toured, but if they're going to tour again, and without Al and David, I *don't* think the full band should work together again. If they keep putting out records, but then touring with a different line-up from the one on the records, or even worse if two different bands tour under the name "the Beach Boys", then it *will* lead to people buying tickets for one band expecting the other, and being disappointed.
If the band want to continue working together, but Brian doesn't want to keep up the touring schedule, the only sensible move I can see is to have Al and David join the Mike & Bruce band for their normal tours. If the band *don't* want to continue working together, of course, then they should do whatever they want.

Only The Beach Boys - i.e. the lineup that's currently touring - can release albums as The Beach Boys.

Of course, there also can't be two different line-ups touring as the Beach Boys, either. Didn't Al get sued for even including "Beach Boys" in his lengthy band title? I've read on a couple of message boards that the BRI license that Mike and Bruce holds is up for renewal. They may have to come up with some type of new terms if there are going to be times when the Beach Boys go out full-force with Brian and Al (and Dave), and other times when it's just Mike and Bruce, if they continue to get rights to tour under a Beach Boys name. I can't see Al pursuing that again, considering the legal fees for his first battle may have run into six or seven figures, just for the rights to play less than 50 dates a year. I doubt Al ever had plans to tour 100+ dates like Mike. I did read that Al is thinking of doing an acoustic tour with David. I'd enjoy that.

Actually, there can. You confirm to the terms of the BRI license, and you're a voting BRI member, you can call yourself The Beach Boys for the purpose of touring.

This wording might be confusing to some in that it doesn't actually mean that there is one standard license hanging out there that any voting BRI member can use. Brian or Al could not also go out as "The Beach Boys" right now individually as the situation stands. BRI would almost certainly have to grant one entity an exclusive license, and the entity with the exclusive license then can of course go out as long as they conform to the license.
There might have been some vagueness surrounding non-exclusive licenses to use the name in the immediate aftermath of Carl's death, but by 2000 it was pretty clear that one entity had the exclusive license to the name.
Brian and/or Al could vote to change the terms of the license, but I can't imagine there is any loophole that would allow, say Al, to presently simply conform to what Mike's band does and also call his band "The Beach Boys." Having two or three versions of the band out there would indeed greatly confuse and dilute the market.
How the current "reunion" band is using the name would likely be a unique arrangement that all parties have agreed to in the midst of Mike having he exclusive license.

Yeah, sure, right, Al Jardine can go out and play as "The Beach Boys" tomorrow and have no problem with that.

Well, someone or someones using the Beach Boys name is playing Texas and Mississippi in October, and they don't look like 50th tour dates...
