This program aired on BBC1 in the UK last night, featured the Beach Boys at the beginning and end and also had the Four Freshmen. For those of you who can access the iplayer go here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01ktckz/imagine..._Summer_2012_Just_One_Falsetto/ - it's well worth checking out.

Thanks for the tip, I found a copy and just hit the Beach Boys bit - really good section on the Four Freshmen!

I actually was bitterly disappointed that I'm not able to watch this for a reason beyond the Beach Boys–I was looking forward to seeing one of my favorite countertenors, Iestyn Davies.  Ah, well.  Now I'm 0-2.

It would be good if you get the opportunity to watch it so we can get your view on their description of Brian's (and maybe others) "falsetto"  Air Quotes

Yeah, well, I'm willing to fight that semantic battle for as long as it takes.

Good show...I had no idea there was a current touring incarnation of The Four Freshmen, and I like the way Mr Yentob topped and tailed the show with classic Beach Boys and current Beach Boys, even a bit of a plug for the new album !

Yes, I really liked that too and was really surprised when Think About The Days came on, good program.

The current lineup of the Freshman sounds awfully commercial and sort of Broadway.  Not really enjoying that.

I wasn't around in the 50s, but I think that's largely true.  They certainly were very, very popular.

Sure they were popular. But within a certain social stratum. Saying they "dominated" anything is hyperbole for the sake of rendering things more spectacular. And being spectacular is not what the Four Freshmen were about. Just sayin'.
