28 songs!

So, while reading the Rolling Stone article, I came across the fact that the band did 28 (!) songs in their latest sessions. So I would probably say that there will be a new studio album, most likely after the hits album and the box set. Also, there will be some new songs on the hits album, likely from these sessions, and maybe some more 2011/2012 recordings on the box set. I'm wondering which songs they did besides what's on
That's Why God Made The Radio
. I guess there is "Waves of Love" and "She Believes in Love Again" and probably 10-14 songs written by Brian. Pretty exciting stuff.

It was reported earlier that they submitted 15 tracks to Capitol, so I'm guessing that Brian (and Joe, and whoever else) made that first culling. I somehow doubt we're missing many gems.
From the sound of it, they didn't work on Waves of Love -- if you read the article, Brian fled from the studio rather than record it. I think it's safe to say that we won't be seeing that tune from the group anytime soon.

This is not aimed at anyone in particular, but I've always wondered why everybody wants to hear songs we've already heard, but with new parts added on. I'm much more excited about the stuff we can't even imagine exists, than I am about Waves Of Love.

I don't think that the other songs that didn't make the album are necessarily "outtakes", I just think maybe they recorded a bunch of material with a view to including it on different things: studio album(s), hits album, box set, maybe even various artist compilations?
I think "Waves of Love" was probably tracked instrumentally, and maybe even had an Al lead, but maybe no group vocals, because he was speaking of The Beach Boys recording of it in the latest ESQ, so I imagine that it has some work done on it.

Well. I'm going to start my next crusade.
I WANNA BIG JUICY BOXSET LIKE WE'RE ACCUSTOMED TO HAVING.
I want a boxset like the 40th anniversary set. I want a boxset like the Pet Sounds boxset. I want a boxset like the Smile boxset, only cheaper.
I WANT THE WHOLE DAMN 10 SONG SUITE ON THERE SOMEWHERE.

Can we have a box set called "Every song the Beach Boys ever recorded that didn't end up on an album"? How many songs would that be?

I am a little perplexed at putting these new songs on a greatest hits package or whatever. I'm assuming they're good or they wouldn't be releasing them. But, if they are good, then why aren't they saving them for the next album, assuming there is a next album.

It's always possible that some really good stuff got left off for various reasons.
It sure has happened before!

May I present you with this little ditty that wasn't good enough for an album called "Soulful Old Man Shunshine"

Yeah, and The Beach Boys don't have a track record of leaving gems on the cutting room floor, do they?

I think it was "Sunshine" but Carl mispronounced the vocal. Don't have the CD handy to check though, you might be right

Ron spelled it "Shunshine" to emphasize the point that Carl wouldn't originally let it on the 30th Anniversary Box Set because he was embarrassed (or something of the like) by the fact that he had made that flub. The real song's name is indeed "Soulful Old Man Sunshine". Of course, the year Carl died (or around that time) they tacked the song on Endless Harmony. Wonder how Carl would feel about that.

I remember reading from several sources back around that time that, for better or worse, we probably would not have seen "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" released, at least in 1998, had Carl still been around. I'm sure every BB fan in the world would easily make that trade to not have heard that song, but that was the story I read back then. They allegedly tried to get "Loop de Loop" on the '93 set too, but that was vetoed as well.

Brian should have showed him that little cut and paste trick to fix that sucker up. Or Brian should have grown a beard and just sang that one syllable for Carl and pieced it in if it was that big of a deal to him.

It is funny that Loop de Loop was actually played on a 1980 radio show yet the band was completely ambiguous towards it until 1998. Al didn't want it on the Good Vibrations box because he "didn't like the vocal". I didn't think the original vocal was THAT bad, but the rumor was that it was Al trying to do his best Brian impression.

Don't forget the one(s) Mike said he was writing with David!
Let's see, were there six unfinished pieces for the suite?

We also have to consider whether Mike proffered the rest of his solo material...

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
