after listening to how surprisingly good the rolling stone set is it got me thinking.

How great would it be to have them release an acoustic album of the classics striped of the production and showcasing the brilliant vocal arrangements, instead of another planned career spanning greatest hits compilation (like we really need another one of those)

Its something they've not done officially before to my knowledge (party dosen't count) and I would foam at the mouth at the prospect of a whole album of acoustic BB music.

A BB Dream project for me would be an album of classics/covers/a new song or two with Brian at a grand piano, David and Al on Guitars with everything recorded live/no autotune.

The Surf City Allstars (with Al Jardine) released an album called Acoustic Vibrations, and I can't say I really liked it all that much.

To be honest, I hope any possible future release (which i suppose we shouldn't be getting our hopes up about) will be of original material, the 'Boys won't be around too much longer! Plus any redoing of songs would end in an inevitable digital massacre that would make us all cry.

I've said in the other thread that I'm all for it but I don't think such an album would work for an entire show.  While it was great to hear "In My Room" and "Surfer Girl" I would not want to hear "Good Vibrations" "California Girls" "Fun Fun Fun" "Help Me Rhonda" or "I Get Around" with acoustic treatments.  "Surfin' USA" was cool enough but anymore of those type of songs don't benefit from a stripped down appraoch.

Instead, an acoustic collection of more obscure, ballads and mid-tempo number would be just fine (guitars, piano, bass, drums).  They could put together a fine album from a lot of the songs from the curren tour:

In My Room
Add Some Music To Your Day
Surfer Girl
I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
All This is That
Kiss Me Baby
Sloop John B
Disney Girls
California Saga
Heroes and Villians
Surfin' USA

I'm all for the acoustic thing--but with new material written specifically for that.

Or, hell, Beach Boys Party II--as long as it's a placeholder until we get the middle-aged version of Pet Sound Mk II!

But...you want them "striped"? What, like have the guys wear Pendletons again??

How many recordings of the same dozen songs or so do we really need? I'll buy a live CD or DVD as a tour souvenir, but there's no need for any new studio performances of Rhonda or In My Room or whatever...

Give me an album with some real organic sound, none of this plastic sounding crap, and I'll be happy.

...Completely random, but how awesome would a Fender Rhodes sound under the horn intro for GOK?

This could be cool as long as it's got a bit of an adventurous tracklist, kind of like Brian's 'I Just Wasn't Made for These Times' soundtrack album.

In the Back To The Beach collection by Kingsley Abbott, there's an interview with Mike Love dating from way back in 1994 when he discusses this very concept :

"Yeah. I want to do an unplugged album. I call it Unplugged In Paradise. I want to record it in the Caribbean or Hawaii or both or a couple of different beautiful places. Could be in a forest, part of it, but primarily the tropics. I would really like to do some '50s and '60s ballads (do-wop kind of things), and have Aaron Neville guest with us. He has such an amazing lead voice. I'd like to do the Duke Of Earl and I Only Have Eyes For You, In The Still Of The Night and those kind of songs that the Beach Boys grew up on."

Mike then goes on to mention other potential special guests for the album such as Billy Joel, Phil Collins, Clint Black, his old mucker Macca, and maybe even a version of Here Comes The Sun with George Harrison. Apparently he'd even got to the stage of discussing this idea with Capitol Records...

Wow, that's a Mike idea I could actually kinda get behind. Wish George was still around.

Maybe Macca could do a redux of Happy Birthday Mike Love/Spiritual Regeneration!

They should do an MTV Unplugged album...  MTV Unplugged still exists, right?
