Soo I was at the supermarket today, and happened to look at the magazines at the checkout line.  I was confused to see the beach boys looking back at me.  The title is "Life Story/The Beach Boys/50th Anniversary Tribute!".  Can't really tell who published it, it doesn't look like too much money/skill was put into it.  These are some of the things on the cover:

"Back At Last!  Their Triumphant Reunion Tour!"
"The Emotional Highs and Lows that Rocked the Group"
"The Secrets Behind Pet Sounds and Smile"

etc.  I'm opening it up now.

It's pretty low grade lol.  I just kinda flipped through it.  Too much use of a certain microsoft word font for my taste ha

"Brian Smiles Again"
"Mike Love Keeps the Flame Alive"
"Al Jardine Keeps the Beach Boys: Grounded"

hehe.

I would have liked to buy this - but it was $9.99. Who prices these things?

Would have liked to buy the 'zinepack too, but it was $13.88. Dumb....the new album will cost me less than that!

Yeah, it's been showing up on Ebay, mostly for like $15, but someone had some for $8.12, but of course then you have to add in the shipping....

Flicked through this today: nothing of note. And the price! It's the sort of thing that gives a Scot palpitations!

"Mike Love Keeps the Flame Alive"

I take it that was not in reference to a certain band discovered by Carl at Blazes.

<Is this worth buying or can I let this one go?>

I bought it today at Walmart and glad I did as I found SEVERAL pictures that I've not seen before.  It is 100 pages in length with pictures from all era's of their careers.  When was the last time you saw a magazine devoted exclusively to the Beach Boys in a major store chain?  Do you think you will ever see this again after this reunion year?  Don't count on it!  Why would one NOT want to jump all over this as I did when I learned it was out there(if someone was a big fan)?  I am collecting all I can this year while the publicity is high on the Beach Boys because this is a once in a blue moon deal!

I thought it was interesting that Mike admits to smoking pot in this, and says that he quit when he got into TM.  I have always seen him deny using any type of substance.

There's one picture in the SMiLE Sessions book (the BBs in Brian's tent) where everyone is very noticeably stoned, including Mike.  Grin

This is crazy that they made this magazine.  I think this 'reunion' is a lot bigger than I expected.  I mean, I know the BB's are one of the biggest acts ever, but this is starting to look like a Beatles caliber event.

Wow. I just found this magazine at a Giant Eagle Supermarket in Pittsburgh, PA. I bought multiple copies! Sorry to see the negative reviews here on the board. This is a top grade magazine with '100's of Rare Archive Photos' as noted on the cover. I didn't count them but there are many, many photos. Just really a great effort in putting this together.

The Dennis and Carl tribute chapter sold me. On the inner cover is a collection of Beach Boys album covers with Pacific Ocean Blue, YoungBlood and a few of Brian's solo albums included. Nice to see them as part of the Beach Boys discography.

For a $9.99 magazine covering the 'life story' of the Beach Boys they seem to have covered a lot of ground. I haven't had time to read it in depth yet. Just flipping through. Great job.

This is a 'must have' for the 50th Anniversary collection. Check it out for yourself!

I first saw a similar type of magazine featuring 50 years of The Rolling Stones. Then I saw the Beatles 50 year tribute magazine (or some similar title). I thought to myself 'where are the Beach Boys'. There is was.

It looks like everyone is jumping on the 50 year band wagon but 2012 belongs to The Beach Boys! Grin

Mike's always admitted to smoking pot when pressed about it. He made jokes about grass as late as 1971 and even takes a toke on stage at the Central Park show from the same year. I assume he quit later in the seventies.
