Wal-mart has audio clips of the first 30 seconds of each track. Much of this stuff hasn't been heard in the previously available clips:

I wasn't gonna listen, but I caved and played the snippet of Summer's Gone, and wow. What an intro.

Ok....I caved some more. Is it just me or does the opening of Shelter sound wierd (forced drum roll)? I really love the rest of that sample though - very strong song.

Agreed, and FTTBA seems to have like 1,000,000 changes... SWEET!

Some more observations:

From There To Back Again clicked with me. I hadn't been knocked out by the iTunes sample - but the first 30 seconds just floored me. Had to play it several times.
The opening to Pacific made me think of SMiLE. Loved it.
Bill and Sue makes me cringe! Smiley
Strange World's opening sounds different than I thought it would - very 'Imagination', too 'Imagination'. I guess I'll get used to it (or not). However, when the Pet Soundsy-tympani beats come in, that's perfection.
Isn't It Time is GREAT! Instantly catchy!
The openings to Daybreak and Beaches In Mind are fantastic.

Looking forward to getting this in my hands!

Wow, the clips are great. Let me see....I'm now totally psyched to hear "Isn't It Time", "The Private Life of Bill and Sue", "Shelter", "Strange World", "From There to Back Again", "Pacific Coast Highway" and "Summer's Gone" in full. I really have to say that from what I've heard, I'm gonna have to say this is probably going to be the best Beach Boys album since L.A. (Light Album). Maybe not one of the absolute best albums, but definitely a "good" album and a very welcome addition that adds to their catalog. One can't honestly say that recent albums by The Who or the Rolling Stones did anything at all except remind fans that the used to be great. Whereas, it honestly sounds like there are a few new Beach Boys classics on this thing, those being "Isn't It Time", "From There to Back Again" and "Summer's Gone".

Isn't It Time reminds me of an updated Kokomo. I could see it doing REALLY WELL as a single if it was promoted through the right channels. Fingers crossed.

I wouldn't say it sounds anything like Kokomo, but I agree that it could be a semi-hit.

I will NOT listen to any of this until I actually buy the cd. *chanting over and over again like a mantra*

Is it June 5th yet?!?  Ahhh!  Ahhh!  Ahhh!

I've managed to resist this batch of samples, I've heard all the others. I felt so awful after I read how Justin and a few others were waiting to hear the whole thing in full, I felt so un-pure LOL I figure this is a small way to redeem myself.

haha nicely done! You get a couple points back!  Wink

Even though I'm super stoked for the new album....surprisingly it's been getting easier to resist the samples now.  Even these new ones from Walmart!  Hopefully my will power can hold out for another week!

Isn't It Time verses sounds very cool
Bill And Sue intro sounds like a ringtone
Shelter intro is.. kinda weird, definitely not what i expected, but this song sounds interesting, a mix of different genre from the band : chorus kinda reminds me of early Beach Boys stuff a la Don't Worry Baby, but the rest seems to be more into Pet Sounds.
Daybreak is very catchy and the intro has a very dreamy vibe, nice!
Beaches In Mind sounds like a joke, bad old Beach Boys stuff they've been doing for the last 20 years or so.
Strange World is indeed quite Imagination-like.
From There To Back Again sounds fascinating, of all the samles we've heard there seems to be a different section, sounds like an well written song.
Pacific Coast Highway might definitely be one of my fav of this album, beautiful intro (won't spoil it for you!), and the rest sounds amazing, classic Brian.
and as for Summer's Gone... wow. just wow. this is what the Beach Boys should be doing more often.

The melody's taken from Darlin'.

Since the BBs overdubbed some vocals onto the recording I guess you probably haven't heard the same recording unless you got a chance to listen to the album

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Ha! The first time I heard it I thought of Hushabye. I'm not saying the melodies are the same, just that the chorus of Shelter was reminiscent of
Hushabye.

It's easily audible on the Walmart snippet. Al is all over the intro.

You know what's cool? We kind of have a partial leak with these. If you combine all of the samples, some of the songs come pretty close to complete. At least half of the album if not 3/4. Just something really awesome I realized.

I realized this, too. I've listened to a handful of albums early this way, by people combining clips. I'm all for listening to clips, leaks etc., but listening to a pieced together version of the album isn't especially an especially satisfying first experience of it ^_^
