Is there a downloadable version of this? This is too cool to be a day-long novelty!

too bad you can't do chords (unless i'm missing basic knowledge of a moog).
it's a weird moment to be playing "somewhere over the rainbow" on a digital moog synth on the google homepage.

Just like a real moog, you can only do one note at a time. All the moog albums made back in the 1960s are the result of many, many overdubs. These things were primitive!

It's fun that you can change all the knob settings and make all kinds of weird sounds. The Les Paul guitar doodle was available for a few days, hopefully Google will put it somewhere like they did with that one.

In honor of Bob Moog's birthday, I have posted a never-before-seen interview with Dr. Moog from 1999. Read it at

There's a YouTube tutorial on what all the knobs and settings do on the Google Moog, though I suppose it might also apply to an actual Moog:

Link to archived (for now) playable doodle. This thing is so cool. It's an amazing piece of technology and Google should be proud. It would be great if someone could turn this into an app for Android and/or iTunes.

As cool and as amusing as it is, ultimately it just makes me mad that I'll likely never be able to afford the real thing >: (

I knew some guys that found a Minimoog in a pawn shop for like $20. Unfortunately, it was so old and neglected that when they took it home and opened it up to try and get it working the circuits pretty much crumbled to dust.
There's plenty of nice moog emulators out there btw. I've been playing with them for years. The Arturia products are spot on, as close to the real thing as it gets. And I really love the Minimogue VA, which is freeware. Great sounding, tons of cool presets, and a poly switch so you can play cords. Check them out if you like the google doodle.

If I weren't MIDI retarded, I would
I can certainly figure out how to run this software and use this software, but can't figure out how to record using them. Even if I could, I've had nagging latency issues for three years now which are seemingly completely unsolvable no matter what I do and happen without any sort of consistency. Oh well, it's not as if writing and recording wasn't one of the very few things I still enjoyed doing, anyway.
o wait ;(
