I used to listen to Iron Maiden but these days I can't put their music on. Lyrics are always cheesy, Steve Harris songs always drag on with the same riffs and melodies repeated again and again. There's a few songs that I can still listen to. Ancient mariner is one of them.

It's probably their best guitar solo. Powerslave title track has solo too.

I wouldn't know. I've only listened to three albums of theirs. I'm not huge on metal. But out of anyone I think they probably have the most entertaining.

Love 'em, especially the first 6 LPs. My favourite metal band after Sabbath.  Smiley

Never got heavy into them (more of a Venom fan as far as NWOBHM is concerned) but their first few records are stone cold classics.

I've only heard Number of the Beast  Evil, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave. Loved em all! I really find it hard to call Sabbath metal though. They would be above Maiden for me too. But I always associate them more with bands like Led Zeppelin and Cream, rather than Metallica and Iron Maiden.

Sabbath are like the grandfathers of Metal, who admittedly don't have much in common with the later 'classic' Metal bands like Maiden. Sabbath were still on the verge between blues, rock and what would later become metal. They were in-between, doing their own thing and thus paved the way for 'actual' metal. (I'm mainly talking classic Ozzy-era, of course.) It's like that with many genres and their pioneering bands, after all.
