Somebody suggested that they should, because the majority of the crowd didn't seem to know it.
That's a lousy excuse. The majority of the crowd on this board love it. I'd really like for them to leave it in the set. I'm sure the song's been recorded and will hopefully show up in the PBS special or some other DVD.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Any out there do the Meet & Greet for this show? If so I'd love to hear a review.

I don't hear it.. I think that's just your standard slightly nasal Mike Love lead vocal recorded from a distance with a cell phone.

I thought that too! Goodness knows what they're upto with the sound at these gigs, it's there on some songs and not on others with Brian then it suddenly appears on Mikes vocals seven shows in!
Mike has really upped his game for this tour though, i've just been listening in awe at some of his bass parts in stuff like I Get Around and it blows my mind. You can tell he's as happy as a pig in muck to be up there doing this with the guys again!

Definitely. I remember a year ago (or maybe 2) he and Bruce did a performance on Dancing With The Stars, and we were all concerned that his voice was on its way out. This tour definitely disproves that theory. He sounds pretty much as good as he ever did.
Long live Mike Love.

It surpassed my expectations and I thought Mike and Al were great, although I also felt some tension there when Mike referred to Cottonfields as Al's "amateur hour". Mike's humor is actually quite self-deprecating. Brian was definitely live because he fluffed a line by wiping his mouth at one point and also went off mic a few times (infact I think this may have been the techs switching his mic to live for his vocal, indicating that he was shut out on any songs where he did not do lead). However, his leads were at least as good as his solo concerts and I did not detect Jeff ever doubling for him.
Jeff did lead on DWB, as he did last year. The use of Dennis and Carl drop-ins was definitely effective. The screen backdrop was annoying
On Brian, he was notably "not there" when Mike was doing his patter. It was pointless for Mike to try to build any dialogue with Brian, as the latter would have been unresponsive. Brian cannot do 'improv'. It may be that he just switches on and off mentally for his own leads. I was surprised that Bruce didn't do patter.
Note that Al fluffed the title of "All This Is That".
Mike did not credit Carl as co-writer of "All This Is That": he said that he and Al wrote it in December 67 (in Rikikesh?)

Thanks!
Great clip of "Why do Fools Fall in Love?" and inclusion on the setlist...especially with the fairly recent movie of same name about Frankie Lyman, so people learn the background of the music.
And, super footage of John Cowsill sharing percussion duties with Nelson Bragg. Fantastic! They are "all over it!"
Thanks again!

Obviously whatever is used on Brian's voice is not as detectable in the audience as it is from an amateur recording and via headphones at home. That at least is something. Otherwise they would've gotten cruel press by now.

Just wondering: is there a teleprompter for the rest of the guys as well? Mike may know these songs like the back of his hand but for Al and David...I'm wondering if they need some assistance? It's almost standard to have a teleprompter running just in case....

It ain't obvious to
me
. If Brian was auto-tuned, then it only helped to enhance the performance. That was very good - similar to the rendition in his solo gigs. The background parts were outstanding!!
Critiqe (pickiness): It sounds a little like he's going through the motions and hurrying through it a little bit. Also sounds like he's reading it through the teleprompter and not really emotionally into it. If he'd just slow it down a little...... Also the "You're under arrest" statement. It was OK (and maybe even desirable) during the Smile tour, but.....maybe drop it here? Just a thought.
I also miss what they use to do in the 70's leading into the bridge with the song coming to a halt and the bass going, bom bom bom bom bom and Mike going Andele andele!
I know Brian sang it originally, but I'd like to see them give it to Al. Like this:

Brian doesn't sound "natural" on the clip of "California Dreamin" either. His voice is boosted too high in the mix and whatever they're using to bump his voice up makes it sound odd (since other people have mentioned it could be something electronic, but not autotune). Al's lead part on the song sounds natural and is balanced well with the other vocalists, and it isn't nearly as loud as Brian's. Example from last night's show:

On the first verse, Brian sings terribly off key, and then they activate it for the second verse, on which Brian sounds like Cher. It's undeniable on this recording.
I'm not put off by that at all, though. Look, it's the Beach Boys, they're half dead, but they get along fine, the songs are great, everybody in the audience has a good time!

Sorry, I don't agree. I think Brian sounds as forceful and confident as any time I have seen him live...probably close to a dozen times. He carried his own leads for entire performances, and people were just stunned that he was back with the fans. I have sat within 6 feet or so of the stage and have seen him perform similarly.
This whole "autotune" concept, I think should be in some other classification, like "The Sandbox," where people who have some superior sound knowledge can debate among others similarly situated. I've learned a lot from some of those very enlightened posters who are professional sound people. Picking apart the performance of a 70 year-old (or soon to be) smacks of bullying and is just ridiculous, in my opinion. No one cares.
Fans are delighted that there is a tour that seems to keep growing and adding performance dates, and constantly revising a setlist from a catalog which is unparalelled among rock bands. This is just needless nitpicking. No lifer fan cares about the detail stuff. They just want to see the guys in good health, working together, making a go of what was an "Impossible Dream" for many fans. A 50th reunion! New music!
Please, Moderators, send the autotune discussions to The Sandbox, where it belongs.

Does anyone know the extent to which autotune is used in live performances? Obviously a lot of pop singers use it, but what about the BBs contemporaries? Does McCartney use it?

I don't think it's obvious on that song at all. Brian misses the first few notes but then it's ok. It's more obvious on other recordings I have heard/seen.
