I was hoping the guy would post the second half of this interview, and it looks like it finally has arrived. A very lucid Brian talks about his late 1960s and early 70s work, including the Fire tapes:

Fascinating to hear him talking about Friends, and obscure songs like At My Window. Thanks for the link!

Thanks.
In part 1 he says they didn't have a hit between Do it again and Rock n roll music.

In the US, they didn't have a hit between "Good Vibrations" and "Rock 'n' Roll Music", but in Europe they had "Breakaway", "Cotton Fields" etc... after "Do It Again".
No idea how this statement came together.
Edit: But what is a hit anyway? Perhaps DIA didn't chart high, but spent a lot of weeks in the charts and sold a lot of copies.

^Right according to RIAA's search engine BB have 3 certified singles; GV, Kokomo and I get around.
It's funny because there are people here who say we shouldn't pay any attention to the UK charts and they kind of have BW on their side.

I wish they would find the smile era tapes of Brian rolling joints and blunts.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Bob: "...particularly, "Never Learn Not To Love..."
Brian: "Oh I love that song. My brother Dennis did that..."
Bob: "Yes...I love that song."
Brian: (Goofy laugh)
Bob: (Goofy laugh) So Sunflower then..."
Brian: (Small goofy laugh)

Is this actually part 2? I remember there being a longer video at one point, about 20 minutes long. I was thinking this was just that video split up into 2 parts. Not positive on that one, though.

I hate what Landy did to Brian in the 80s

Maybe he was thinking of Paul Simon.

So Brian says "We ended up destroying the [Fire] tapes." Do you think he knew that wasn't true, or he created some sort of false memory that they destroyed the tapes? Interesting that he's perfectly willing to talk about Smile here, though he seems disturbed by the whole thing.

Well Brian has a history with destroying, Desper has said that Brian had him erase tapes on a regular basis, like a different set of lyrics Brian recorded for 'Til I Die. Also, Carl made copies of all the SMiLE tapes during the early 70's, so anything that's missing today must have disappeared sometime in the '60s, before anyone knew anything really about SMiLE. I wouldn't be surprised if Brian destroyed some of the tapes himself, we know for sure the very first Heroes and Villains session was taped over. He maybe just chucked some of the tapes he didn't want to get out.

You know, I love watching this video, his comments on Spector are fantastic. Brian really believed that Spector had done something new. Interviews never really mine this vein, but I think Brian really likes to talk about his artistic predilections as a producer and sound designer.

Can someone please explain why the interviewer asked Brian to repeat his explanation of the Spector sound? Was it a technical reason? They wanted to get different camera angles?

I think Bob asked him about percussion on Pet Sounds, but Brian went off on a very interesting tangent, so Bob put in a question about that instead. Continuity.

Looks like they stopped filming and the conversation went on.
Perhaps they had to change film rolls? They had only space for 11 minutes back then.
