Please come out to the Earl tonight to catch the Genius of Van Dyke Parks. He puts on a fantastic show! 8:30 and only 25 smackers! I will see all the southeastern BB fans there!

Enjoy! I saw Van Da Man 3 times, and all those shows were superb! (and I would greatly appreciate some list of performed songs - but please, by no means distract yourself from the event itself; some impressions on hindsight would be welcome, I mean).

If I were a more adventurous spirit I'd definitely make the drive down!

I wish he'd perform a little bit more north! I'd love to see him in concert.

Saw him in London several years ago - superb evening and he gave fans a lot of time after the show.

I had to be elsewhere on Saturday, seeing VDP in Athens on Sunday.

Yep. I saw him in The Hague, 3 years ago, with Inara George (daughter of the late great Lowell). Meeting him and Inara was a true delight. They signed the 10 or so CDs I had with him, and VDP handed me his 'calling card'... it read something like: 'Mr Van Dyke Parks wishes to apologize wholeheartely for any unfortunate misadventure that you may have encountered in the course of the evening'.

He knows Inara from her birth onwards, and this the way he introduced her on stage: 'Ladies and gentlemen: Inara George... she knew me when I was still a brunette'.

Really... with VDP, you may be 100% sure that there'll never be a dull moment.

Of course a great show last night! Only BB mention was introducing "Orange Crate Art" he said "Here's a song I got Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys out of bed for" Also for the last 3 songs he invited everyone up on stage, so I got to sit at his feet while he sang "FDR in Trinidad" and "The All Golden" wonderful night. I asked him about the BB reunion but the last time I reported what a BB insider told me I got beat up on this board!

Ah... great to hear that. Being on stage with VDP for the encore... I see my life goals have not been fully realised yet.

I was planning on going but a family situation won the day.  My buddy went.  Sounds like he had a good time.  Hope there was a good turnout.

The Athens show was recorded for broadcast later in the year (May, iirc) for Mountain Stage on NPR. Here's the link: http://www.mountainstage.org/
