Gee & H&V intro
«
on:

When was Gee first placed at the beginning of H&V? What is the earliest point in the SMiLE timeline that it was used at the beginning of the song and not within the song? Thanks.

Best of my knowledge it was for the 2004 BW SMiLE tour, so arranged 2003.

That is what I thought also. There is a jan/feb '67 version that has it placed after the cantina section.

The session tapes are pretty clear that gee preceded the H&V "sections" - after the sing Gee you can hear one of the Boys go into the next part, "dit dit dit, heroes and villains."

I think at the same time as the Cantina vocals.

If you are referring to the TSS bonus track, I actually thought that was a compilation of (rough/early) mono mixes from that time, and not one edit. So it is an edit of a mono mix of the verse and other sections, one of the cantina, a rough edit of HAV part 2 sections, and one of the fade. I don't think the order of those mixes is vintage. The order of the various part 2 sections
is
vintage, I believe.

I'm referring to track 24 on Disc 4 - Heroes and Villains: Early Version Outtakes. Thanks for the clarification.

ok, i copied this order from another thread:
1. Normal first verse although the lead vocal sounds quite laid back ( more than normal
2. Whistle/Dum Dum section
3. My Children were raised accapella with Often wise/piano section
4. Wordless vocal verse
5. In the Cantina
6. How I love my girl (Gee)
7. Dit Dit accapella H&V with handclaps and the one/two note bass line
8. Heroes & Villains accapella - with the clip clop thing
9 False Barnyard with hum dum vocals
So you are saying that 1-5 was a test mixdown and the 6-9 are a compilation of H&V Part 2 bits?

All the sections can be found on UM17.
1-3 are a mixdown (including "at 3 score and 5", with the word "at" inserted from a different source since it's missing on UM17).
4 is taken from another Heroes And Villains mono mix tape on UM17.
5 is also on UM17, called "vocal overdub take unknown".
6-8 is a mono mixdown.
9 is an alternate mix of the fade.
