Hello All:

My name's Doug and I'm a newbie to the board. So, if I violate any protocol, please be gentle  Wink

For my first post, I thought I'd pass on news of a newly designed website for Larry Knechtel. FYI, Larry was one of the session musicians on Pet Sounds and SMiLE (e.g. organ on Good Vibrations & piano on Wonderful).

Larry was a member of the Wrecking Crew, playing on albums by Johnny Rivers, The Monkees, The 5th Dimension, The Mamas & Papas, many Spector productions and much more. He won a Grammy for arranging and playing the piano part to Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

Larry lived in my hometown of Yakima, WA for the last eight years of his life. A very humble and gracious man, he would always talk to his "fans" after playing local shows. Larry and I were going to get together so he could show me some licks. Unfortunately, he passed away only a week later.

So, if you're interested give his site a view. There is a page devoted to his interview from the Making of Pet Sounds booklet from the boxed set.

Thanks for all the info. Its worth noting, too, that Larry collaborated with Dean Torrence for Jan & Dean's Save For A Rainy Day. Most notably the title track, "Save For A Rainy Day Theme," which Larry wrote. Its actually one of my few favorite non-Beach Boys' instrumentals.

For some reason this video has the song sped up, but it still gives a pretty good "look" at Knechtel's work on the project:

Nice site. Huge Bread fan here, as well as the boatload of other artists Larry's work was associated with.

Nice discography, too. You can add one more title if you like: James Griffin's 1974 solo album, "Breakin' Up Is Easy." Two songs on there were from aborted 1973 Bread sessions (of what would've been their next album), and a few others feature Larry as well. Smiley
