I got the Party box. I remember the day it arrived in the mail. I seemed to have forgotten about this. I tended to neglect the "stereo" discs when it came to SOT. They were kinda lame. Not real stereo.

Where is that Little Girl bleed through mentioned above? I need to review.

It's one of the Psychedelic Talk tracks, on the same SOT as the Honeys joke-telling sessions. It's Brian talking with a few people, Marilyn serving food, and the bleed-through under all of that stuff is Little Girl I Once Knew, the takes Brian taped over.

Perhaps this is just one of Brian's "voices" he heard on occasion.

Those studio mic's were so good then, they could pick up ANYTHING.

I wonder if that voice might have not been on the original session tapes -- maybe Scott (Dennis's kid) yelling "CAROL!.....CAROL!...."

After all, why would it have been added by a bootlegger? And I don't buy the open mic story...if a bootlegger is mastering the thing, there would be no microphones involved; just plugging the tape outputs into the input of whatever digital device was used to make the final master.

"not real stereo"?? Define "real" then. Different sounds in different sides = stereo.

If you play the original album at the same spot, you'll hear that the background chatter is mixed out at this point. Where the laughter returns right after "kill kill kill" it is mixed back up. I'd bet it was done during the background chatter track recording and Brian mixed it out, similar to "she's got the biggest ass you've ever seen" on "Amusements Parks USA"

Then if not the bootlegger, how the hell else is it going to happen?? The original tape sure didn't come out of the vaults like that! It's the only spot in the whole album that it happens! I've made mistakes like that myself before with my old Teac reel-reel and cassette tape deck. Britz didn't do it! Capitol Mastering didn't do it. The same song was later used on Hawthorne and the entire audio seems intact, right?? So it's an obvious recording mistake! Somebody hit the record switch on the copying deck by mistake when there was a mic attached. Or an old tape with the kid's voice was on the tape already, but that's doubful! Doesn't sound like it was done on purpose or for 'tracking' purposes or anything!

The kid isn't saying "kill kill kill kill"; he's actually saying "cranberry sauce".  LOL

Mooger has a point. The talking/laughing track was added after the fact. So........if that's the case, who's kid had access to the 'chatter' track to record over it at Western? Only one who had a kid was Mike, but it wasn't his.....

Hey Mooger, that point in Amusement Parks was faded out for the final song, but can you hear what Hal Blaine is saying on the SOT disc where it isn't faded out? It's funny! "She's got the biggest.......".  Grin

Mikie, the Hawthorne CA version doesnt have the chatter audio. The only place we can hear the kid and his "killx3" is on the SOT disc. The chatter track sounds like it was recorded onto the finished Party! album lineup (giving the impression the sessions were performed in an unplugged atmosphere). Given the mixout of chatter on the section in question in the official release I reckon it was done on the day and was unintentional.

Update: I'll go and listen to AP-USA now (you typed your response just as I posted mine)

Update #2: Yep you can hear it, very faintly but its there.

Yeah, you're right. Been so long since I listened to the Hawthorne disc that I forgot there's no party chatter on that version of 'Devoted To You'.

So if it was there all along and Britz edited it out for the final release, I'm surprised he didn't fix it permanately at the time. Plus, what did they use fo the subsequent releases of the Party! album - that edit had to have been fixed.

I was just thinking as to how they would have done that, because you have a dub of the tracks in their album running order. All the different takes and the like would have been edited to get the proper song, so I imagine alot of cutting and splicing. Then it sounds like that tape was played in real-time as the group and guests recorded their party chatter. Someone handed the kid the mike and voila - it's the twerp out of the Shining!

The final master of Party! sounds great considering how much copying and splicing may have been done prior to release.

I don't think anybody "handed the kid the mic" to contribute to the chatter. Don't think the kid was at the studio party. It cuts in so suddenly it sounds like an edit mistake. An external mic turned on by an outside source. Unintentional 'overdub'.

Or.........the bootlegger was recording/copying the Party tape over an existing tape with a recording of his kid and accidently depressed the record button for a few seconds. I dunno how it happened.

An interesting addition is that during the song's tracking session Brian jokes about yelling something during the bridge (he suggests he could do the splits!!).

I had a similar thing happen recently when transferring some of my cassette recordings into audacity.  I forgot my webcam was still connected and the mic was live, so i ended up getting an unintentional overdub.   I didn't realize til  i played it back and suddenly i hear ice clinking in a glass, and some idiot baby talking to someone named Shelly.  At first I was like, "wtf is that???"   Then I figured it out, the clinking glass was mine, the idiot was me, and Shelly is my cat!   Razz

I swear I have heard it VERY quietly on the original recording.  I haven't listened to it recently and might not for a while, but i think it's there.

I listened to the official CD again and the chatter track is defeinitely mixed right down in the offending section. Sounds are there before and after but nothing during the moment it sghould appear.

Mooger Booger, did you listen to Amusement Parks on the SOT yet? The disc with the version with the alternate lyrics?

Turn it up and check out what Hal "The Carnival Barker" Blaine is saying.

I'll listen to "Party!" tonight to see if the kid's voice was mixed out of the chatter track for the final release....

The anomolies we hear........are what we all fear.........love and mercy to you and your friends toniiiiiight.

of all the Sot's, the Party! discs are the ones I've probably listened to the least...Apart from There's No Other and Devoted to You, I don't really care at all for those tapes...
