To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Thanks so much for posting that!  I was going to do the same at some point today.Smiley  Bruce was great and really had some wonderful insight.  Looking to do some interviews soon with Al Jardine, Dean Torrence and Dion DiMucci.  Will keep everyone updated.

What is this "life" thing you speak of ?

Bruce seems like a nice guy. Also, he vaguely looks like Glen Quagmire from Family Guy, a show I have not really watched in several years.

I really like this question/comment:

Q: It seems like every 10 years there is a renewed interest in the Beach Boys, with a new generation discovering you guys.  The 80’s were a huge time for this including the smash hit “Kokomo” in 1988.  Was that the band’s biggest hit?

A: Impact-wise, no…but as far as pure sales, yes.  It sold 12 million albums.  It’s a wonderful song but hats off to “I Get Around”, “Good Vibrations” and all that other stuff.  That’s more important songwriting for the band.

Its a great answer.  He doesn't dimmish Kokomo yet he gives some (obvious) perspective.  There are songs that sold less but are more important.  I don't hate Mike Love, but in the 60s (and beyond) he seemed to place greater value on dollars while Brian placed greater value on art.  This isn't to say that Mike didn't appreciate the artistic merits of what Brian (and he) was doing, or that Brian didn't care about money.  But it does seem that Mike was more money focused and Brian more art focused.  FWIW, I don't have a real problem with the basic idea of commercializing/monetizing music.  I dislike dumbing it down and dumbing it down does seem to have a high correlation to commercializing/monetizing it, but it doesn't have to be the case, as The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and others, have proven.
