WTF was Brian doing vocally with H&V in that clip (GV was pretty cool though at the end)? That was...odd. Equally odd was them talking about Disney and playing BWRG in the background.

When  BW sits at piano solo and does not belt out the words with energy and just mumbles or half talks the words to his songs he hits bum notes and to the casual fan or somebody that doesnt know much about BB/BW it appears  he cant sing his own songs anymore.. We all know he can still sing em + new ones to. Just in a lower voices..I dont know if that is wise or not..We all know BW is comfortable being around a piano when interviewed.. So im sittin on fence on this one..I feel protective towards BW + when i see these little interviews.. I wonder what non BB fans think..

Brian seems completely done with these interviews and all the PR for SMiLE....or at least being told on cue to play piano and sing a couple notes for the interview.  They way he weirdly sang "Heroes and Villians" and "Good Vibrations" looks like Brian is just totally done with it.  He changed the melody...twisted it around, completely threw it aside as if saying "Ah who the hell cares?"

That was kinda my take too - that or he was just trying to spice things up and throw people off, just for kicks.

What's with the guy with the plastic face and the teeth who introduces it? He looks like a bad CGI experiment.

The last performance bit of "Good Vibrations" has Brian singing the lyrics to part of the melody from "Oxygen To The Brain". He's getting bugged drivin' up and down the same old strip, I guess...or maybe these snippets represent the true melodies for "Good Vibrations" and "Heroes & Villains" that he's hidden from us all these years.  Grin

I was originally going to put up a random clip of him in the TERRIBLE sitcom 'Saved By The Bell' - then I came across this little jewel 15 seconds into my search:

BEWARE! This video is not for the faint of heart.

Agreed. That's BW in a great mood, feeling creative and inspired.
Kinda like those rare occasions in concert when he puts a little twist on a melody here and there.

Evidently these are the spirit-fathers of the smiling Mexigay who introduced the Extra segment.

BTW, Brian plays H&V in A (rather than D-flat) in the interview...as far away as a key can be.

Interesting...nice catch.  That probably explains why he sang it so differently.

Kind of like when he turned Smile into weird-ass Smiley Smile.

What it comes down to is, the guy's an artist.  It's the same thing that Etta James does.  She refuses to sing "At Last" with any semblence to the original song, everybody gets pissed but she sings it how she feels she should sing it.  It's the same reason Michael Jackson by all accounts wasn't a very sexual person but grabbed his genitals on stage.  It's the same reason only Mick Jagger can do the Mick Jagger strut.  It's the reason Angus Young plays guitar the way he does, and the reason Jerry Lee Lewis pounds his feet on the piano.

Brian sings the songs half hearted or in a strange key, or with a different melody because his mind (the same one that created both songs) constantly has new melodies and sounds, and harmonies flowing in and out of it.  Ironically, or maybe poetically, the two he does here perhaps best showcase the multitudes of variations on a theme he can come up with, right?

I think its both..Boredom + variations on a theme..Depends on his mood..He must be so tired talking of his lost masterpiece ..He finished it in 2004 + people still want to talk about it + want the SS box..Its been a ball+ chain around his neck since 66..Then add in the GENIUS thing.. Pet Sounds + Smile has been both a blessing + curse..As a creative artist he would rather talk about his NEW stuff..Disney shouldnt have been released till next year..Bad move..Just like when he released ..GIOMH + BWPS within in couple of months of each other..
