You wanna be around to actually receive the box, right?

Currently staying at my parents house, going to lay claim to the record player and schlep it up north in anticipation...get up early, head to Frisco, buy the box, drive home and enjoy. Nothing too exciting.

And what will your new bride have to say about this ?  Grin

My 11/1 will consist of the following
1. Weeping quietly in the corner because I'm a broke-ass college student who can't afford such things
2. Checking The Pirate Bay regularly to see if a download of it is up yet.

I'll be waiting for my order to arrive for a few days after the release so I'll be listening to Van Dyke Park's new compilation, Mylo Xyloto, and Brian Wilson's Disney album until that day.

When it arrives:

I'm going to carefully open the box, take out the contents, place CD 1 in the stereo, put on my Studio headphones, close my eyes, lay back and listen to the album. When the sessions kick in, I'll get the book out and flip through that while listening.

Rock! The day has almost arrived!!!! I can't wait for the petty arguments, reviews, first impressions, laughs, threats, and joy that will come from us Smiley Smilers after this release!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

It probably won't be there, because it will be a comercially released recording. Most websites of dubious origin ban the uploading of anything legal.

What's everyone else gonna do before they SMiLE?

Um, nothing.  This will be a cool release, but it is not the most important thing to ever happen in my life.

Although I'll be getting the 2CD box first thing Monday morning before work, I have the next day off for the deluxe boxset to arrive so it'll go something like:

Lie in followed by a fry up and a cup of tea whilst logged on here watching the Smile thread cross 350 pages(!) and waiting for the postman to show
Once it arrives, CD3 will be going on first
Then out for a pub lunch and read the booklet
Return for CDs 4 and 5
Grab some dinner and put the vinyls on
Return to the pub to bore my mate about what a great day I'd had!

Is it wrong to be so excited?!!!

I don't think this is the best place to openly discuss downloading SMiLE illegally. I'm down with torrents and everything but it makes me uncomfortable considering the guests we have here.

Have no idea when it'll arrive on the 1st. Another problem is the Halloween party i'm going to the night before, which will be characterised by by obscene and courageous drinking. So hangover pending, i'll get up at half 8, as usual, and spend the day wandering round the house like a lost soul until the postman arrives. Then, glass of wine, side 1..... BLISS.

Good point-I've just remembered I'm seeing The Young Knives on the 31st so that pub lunch might be brought forward somewhat. About 9am should do it!

I have been planning an all day personal SMiLE listening party for myself.* I like lists a lot, and to maximize my first-day listening experience, I have created this one. I'm only getting the 2CD right now for financial reasons.

1. Wake up at 6:45 A.M. Eastern Standard Time.
2. Shower, thoroughly deodorize, brush 'em like crazy.
3. Eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, hopefully Shredded Wheat.
4. Leave for class at 7:30 A.M.
5. Arrive home after class around 10:00 A.M.
6. Exercise on elliptical trainer for 30 minutes.
7. Take my dog for 3.4 mile walk around neighborhood. Whilst exercising and walking my dog, I will be listening to my iPod. Most likely Pet Sounds, Sgt. Pepper, Big Star's Third, The Velvet Underground & Nico, The Strokes Is This It, and Weezer's Pinkerton. These are some of my favorite albums and will get me in the mood to welcome another album into the prestigious group.
8. Shower again, thoroughly deodorize once more.
9. Now the fun begins. Watch recorded episodes on Phineas and Ferb on TV until the mail arrives.
10. Get the box, grab a 20 oz. bottle of Diet Coke out of the fridge, go upstairs to my bedroom, and shut the door.
11. Open the box and take out disc 1 before anything else. Place it in my stereo and push play. Put volume at 32, a comfortably loud level.
12. Listen to tracks 1-19, taking it all in and singing along the whole way through.
13. After completion of tracks 1-19, rip 2CD set to my computer and listen to the rest of the awesome extras. Read over the book a bit and look at my new poster. Hang it in my room.
14. Get in my car and take the 2CD set with me.
15. Drive around and listen to the album to see how it will sound in my car. This is important. The car is arguably my favorite place to listen to music at ungodly levels, and SMiLE must have a test run.
16. Go to work, or if I'm off, go to my friends place and force him to listen to it. He's not a huge Beach Boys fan, but he at least likes Pet Sounds.
17. After a long day of activities, I will go to sleep and have dreams.
18. Begin the long, drawn out, repetitive process of daily life again. Things won't be any different, but they will be filled with SMiLE's. What could be better than that?

*If it leaks, then this is all going out the window.

Vigilante, our days will look very similar...

1. Wake up around 4:30 am CST
2. Morning stuff - contacts, make up, brush 'em like crazy
3. Breakfast, also shredded wheat
4. Finish getting ready
5. Teach my 6:00 am Zumba class
6. Starbucks for chai and pumpkin muffin
7. Shower, kill time until 9:40 am
8. Get on train and head to record store where I preordered the box set for their 10:00 am opening
9. Buy box
10. Get back home and carefully open and unwrap entire contents of box
11. I will likely read the book before I do any listening
12. Listen to the first disc, only if I have to listen to it in it's entirety before I go back to work
13. See clients at my gym from about 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm
14. Come home and listen to all of it!
15. Go to bed completely content

I am so excited for Nov. 1!

My Halloween party will be the day before, and when I drink I either wake up at 5 AM or 3 PM, so there's a huge variable there, but let's assume it'll be the former, especially because this will be as exciting as a classic Christmas morning and I will want to spring out of bed.

But either way really, I am going to set up my laptop with a chair and table in my foyer in front of the front door. My doorbell doesn't work and sometimes I could go hours without realizing a package has been delivered to the house. Definitely gonna listen to Pet Sounds at least once or twice.

When the box comes, the first thing I'm going to do is upload it to my computer, and while all the discs are uploading I'll listen to choice tracks like Surf's Up '67 and such. When it's all done uploading I'll listen to the vinyl while lying down on my bed. Then the rest of the week all my free time will be spent listening to the box set again and again and again, and arguing about it on the internet.
