Ok how about we all list some What if's and turning Points within the Beach Boys world. If anyone says Smile better make it good and honest e.g would it of sold or would of been like Pet Sounds was at the time of release. I'll carry on what if Brian didn't take drugs?, what if Murry was still looking after the Beach Boys long after his sacking by brave Brian. What if Brian didn't have a breakdown in 1964 on a plane would he of still be touring to this day?. I can carry on forever but I would like to see what anyone else thinks or writes about this wide ranging subject.

What if Dennis had been able to successfully complete Bambu in 1978 (or 1979)? What if Carl & Dennis had won Brian's corporate vote in 1977? What if the BBs finished the Paley sessions instead of switching to Stars & Stripes Vol. 1? What if Dennis hadn't drowned in 1983? What if "Brian Farts Into The Piano" really does exist and is the Air section of the Elements? What if the "Cantina" mix of H&V had been released as a single in March of 1967? What if Adult Child had been released in 1977? What if David Marks had never quit and stayed with the band through the rest of their time together? What if Bruce hadn't left the band in early 1972 (what would the next 2 studio albums have been like?)? What if Mike Love had insisted on perfecting his saxophone skills and played it as a regular instrument and how would it have effected the music? What if the disco version of "Here Comes The Night" had been released 2 years earlier and became a surprise #1 hit? What if SMiLE had been released in 1967 and was a complete utter failure? What if the BBs had played a set of mostly oldies at Monterey Pop? What if Carl had never taken up smoking in the first place? What if Jack Rieley had never been part of the BBs early 70's direction? What if Brian had completed Fred Vail's country album and released it? What if "Brian Farts Into The Piano" is titled incorrectly because it was actually Van Dyke who broke wind and proceeded to giggle rather "girlie-like"? What if Eugene Landy had never met Brian (or treated him for that matter)? What if Rocky Pamplin had been hired as a full time singer for the band in the mid-to-late 70's? What if Rocky Pamplin had farted into Brian's piano and would it have been considered as a track (perhaps a b-side)? What if Brian still farts into his piano and if so does he proceed to giggle about it? What if Brian farts into his piano and he calls Jeffrey Foskett to tell him about it on a daily basis and does Jeff ever tire of this immature behavior? What if "Kokomo" had never been used in the Cocktail soundtrack and would it have still been as successful as a single?

This could be very fun.....

I'll tackle this one:

"What if Brian didn't have a breakdown in 1964 on a plane would he of still be touring to this day?"

Something tells me he still would have had a replacement for the road. Isn't that why he called Al Jardine back into the fold pre-breakdown?

What if Mike Love was never bald?

He'd be out giving speeches.

Had SMiLE been out about March or April 1967... it would have outsold Smiley Smile. Grin

And would be regarded a classic alongside Their Satanic Majesties Request and The Who Sell Out.
