Is anyone now thinking about archiving some of the unique information on here, just in case next time it doesn't come back?

(And the priority should be all of my posts!)

I was thinking about that while we were offline - I'm sure someone more tech-savvy can figure something out, but the treasure trove of great info here is certainly worthy of preservation.  The best I know how to do is save each page of a thread as a PDF but I'm sure there's an easier way.

All message boards use a database (or a few) that holds every post, thread, and user on the site. All good web hosts let the site owners download these files, something that can be initially tedious, but absolutely doable -- and far, far easier than downloading pages manually. Given the database, not only could you thoroughly back up the site, but if the board really did go belly up, you could restore virtually everything.

At worst you would lose some recent posts and maybe the site would look a little different. At best, it would be like nothing ever happened.

Actually I was just thinking everything should be backed up EXCEPT your posts, all of which should, of course, be wiped by a moderator. Read the rules. (just a joke, don't hit me!)

The Brianista Prayer

Oh Brian
Thou Art In Hawthorne,
Harmonied Be Thy name
Your Kingdom Come,
Your Steak Well Done,
On Stage As It Is In Studio,
Give Us This Day, Our Shortenin' Bread
And Forgive Us Our Bootlegs,
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.
Amen.  ---hypehat

Er, it was rulz, not rules. That's what made it even more tragic. I imagine him making little hip-hop devil horns with his fingers.

Isn't that what happened last year or so when the board went down - they restored it to a state like, two days before the crash, so people had missing posts and things.

To le mods, how did we retrieve it, out of interest?

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?

I tried to back up info on this board, but I couldn't find the "Reverse" switch.

To be honest: I don't know. This is something the chairman of the board is occupied with.

Rule of thumb, think BEFORE you post. And THINK how it may affect someone else's feelings.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Listening to you I get the music; Gazing at you I get the heat; Following you I climb the mountain; I get excitement at your feet
Right behind you I see the millions; On you I see the glory; From you I get opinions; From you I get the story

Sinatra faked his death only to go into hiding as the mysterious boogeyman who runs the show here.
