The GV (early take) which can be found on the smileysmile/wildhoney cd is great, it has such a funky chorus but what's the deal with the lyrics? Obviously its before Mike got his lyrics down but half of it is already written anyway and didn't Mike say he was the one to come up with the boy/girl scenario in the song because the lyrics already say " I bet I know what she's like, and I can feel how right she'd be for me" or was he just talking about "I'm picking up good vibrations, she's giving me excitations " Did Brian write the lyrics for this early take? And who's singing in it, to me it sounds like Carl on lead and Brian backing.

Those lyrics were written by Tony Asher, and they were only ever intended as a placeholder, as per "Scrambled eggs". Lead vocal is generally agreed to be Brian, but there are dissenting voices.

i was watching a beach boys movie did you know that the original version of "good vbariotns was just brian yelping "good good good good good googd vibrations" over and over and over over bouncy chorus section echo chamber HERE yeah, well, it needed a hook. and then mike love rescued it from being aimless drug music by bothering to write the entire rest of the song himself?

Woh I was so sure that was carl. So if it was Tony Asher's idea for the song to be about a boy/girl relationship why do Mike Love take credit for it

Thank god, I was getting scared I couldn't tell the difference between their voices , but Carl's and even Dennis's falsetto do sound a lot like Brian's.

see you need something people can understand. what can people understand? sex. boy/girl, you know? boys like girls and girls like boys. people understand this. woo woo machines... they don't understand. they hear it and think, this is ego music, what is this? it's crazy acid alliteration ego music. this song needs something i can understand like a girl/boy theme with hooky chorus reinforcing this thematic element. before mike love, good vibrations was just a jew's harp, a cello, and a theremin. mike had to tell brian, we need something people can understand, like pianos and bass and drums and organs...

You shocked me there for a moment. Glad to know I was right in assuming it's Carl.

I'll slightly refine that: verse - Carl chorus - Brian. Sorry for the confusion. Source for this info is impeccable.

WHAT!? I always thought that was Brian!
It sounds like both of them really. No, wait, it's Brian. It has to be! Or...? Carl doesn't sing like that, does he?

Carl & Brian on the verse and chorus, Brians vocals are stronger and louder mixed. Brian is singing along alone with the theremin in one place, the uee ooo ooo ooo

Why is the first line always missing from this early version?

Why is the first line always missing from this early version?
I suspect that the mic input wasn't "punched in" soon enough and nobody felt it was necessary to redo the opening line since it was just a demo run-through. I have a feeling that Asher's original opening line is lost as a result and Mike's "I love the colorful clothes she wears..." was substituted for the BWPS version because no one could remember what Asher's line was.

That's a shame. I always assumed Asher did write the opening line.
