I just got "A Hard Day's Night" on DVD, and it's great :D

I was thinking... why didn't the Beach Boys have a feature film?!?! It would have been great!

I recall a discussion on here awhile back about this - if I'm remembering correctly, there actually was talk of a Beach Boys feature film (a poster on here even linked to a contemporary article), but for some reason or another, it got shelved.

I can't imagine a BB film being very successful. I think Mike and Dennis would have done well, but in 1964 I can't imagine Carl or Al being very comfortable in front of a camera.. plus the Beatles had charisma and charm in excess.

Perhaps we're better off without it, I doubt much effort would have been put into it and it would probably have ended up being bland, lame and boring. The Beatles had a lot of charm and could act naturally (get it?) when they made 'A Hard Days Night' and 'Help!'. They also had better scriptwriters than i'm sure would have been given to a Beach Boys film.

Always good to do a search of this board's archives if you really want info on something....this was a thread long ago...which references a thread from long before that.

Lets face it, it would probably have been shelved at some point, at least before actually happening it saved money.
Most of those 60's pop star films were pretty lame anyway, Would AHDN or Help stand up as will without the songs and the fact the Beatles are in it? that's the test I always put to these things, how would they stand up without the classic songs and if the parts were played by nobodies, usually the resulting thought isn't great.

Why was there never a Beach Boys feature film? If you have to wonder, you've obviously never seen their Jack Benny sketch. Quite simply: THEY. CANNOT. ACT. Except maybe Mike. Even in 1965 Brian had a habit of reading rather than acting, and it was obvious recently when he voiced that Duck Dodgers cartoon.
