Has any of the unreleased stuff Kevin Shields made after loveless leaked out? Because with Smile out now, this stuff could be the next great unreleased musical material with the story behind it being very similar to smile.(following up a masterpiece and both guys' music making perfectionism turning into obsessive recording)

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I also keep hearing the same thing about Stone Temple Pilots and The La's.

Personally, my next holy grails are the dozen or so albums' worth of Jon Brion studio tracks, and the Largo-on-Fairfax collection of live DAT tapes.

Wow Jon Brion has that much locked away, apparently two albums worth of material from My bloody valentine is in the vaults.

I went to some of those boards and i feel bad for those fans who only have two albums of great material and no new album material since 1991.Thud

Yeah, Jon Brion is a victim of his own contradictory rules--live, he embraces the accidental, the experimental, the spontaneous, and frequently squeezes brilliance from all that, which is heard by the audience once, and goes straight onto a DAT and into a vault, unheard afterward. In the studio, he gets super-picky--ignoring his live stance entirely--and his recordings somehow come out overly stead and measured-sounding. He fusses and fusses over dozens of tracks, then never lets them out. His last album was in 2000.

What is it about me that falls for artists who don't put out their stuff for ages and ages.  Hmmm, "SMile", Jon Brion, XTC...

Yikes, Jon Brion needs to break these rules to please the fans. Kevin Shields is kinda like Brian keeping the fans in dark for a while and then coming back just recently.

*obligatory Chinese Democracy reference here*

Kevin has done improv concerts rather a lot, but it really does seem like songwriting or recording is far from his mind, maybe because he finds it difficult. Maybe Loveless was his Pet Sounds/SMiLE moment in terms of not being able to reach the zenith he was striving for, and unlike Brian who found another path, he prefers to avoid it completely.

Its a shame because Kevin Shields made the album of the 1990s like Brian made the album of the 1960s.

Whatchu hear about STP? As far as I know they've released just.about everything they've recorded. Barring some songs that were cut up and used to make other songs.
