Noel Gallagher's New Solo Single - Finally

I've been waiting for this one a long time. A LONG time.
Notice where he nicked the organ line heard at the end of Mr. Kite for the ending phrase of his brass band solo on this tune. The man can't help himself!
I like this a lot, it hit me immediately, more so than Liam's music.

Not a bad song.... Better than his twat brother's Beady Eye. Hopefully it does better on the charts too.

The video is hilarious if only for the fact Noel only appears to be capable of two things, namely writing and abusing women.

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.

Eh, I wouldn't say that - I'm struggling to remember it! It would appear he's gone the 'serious ballad' route for his solo stuff, and most of the tracklist for High Flying Birds is old Oasis outtakes. But then, apparently so is the Beady Eye record, so the Gallaghers could just be getting the last few years of Oasis out of their system.
His lyrics are only getting worse and worse though. "High time, Summer in the city"? Now where have you heard that before....

I like Noel's melodies very much (including this one), I think he has a way of making them rise and fall at the right time, just the right mix of the expected notes and the unexpected twist. His melodies over somewhat standard chord progressions like "Some Might Say" is what drew me into his style. It's not everyone's cup of tea, sure, but I'm very excited to hear the rest of the disc.
For the record one of my all time Noel favorites is "Half The World Away", absolutely one of my go-to songs when I need an Oasis/Noel fix. If a lot of the tunes on the new disc are in that style, I'll be happy.

Errrrrrrrr...
Well, it's not rubbish...it's worse than that - it's plain uninteresting. No point to the song, no point to the video.

If you're a fan of Noel Gallagher's music, there is a point to the song. There is a point to every song, every poem, every student film, everything that could be labeled art. Actually, it's more a matter of who likes it and who does not. Much like fans of...let's use the Beach Boys as an example: Beach Boys fans will find something redeeming or worthwhile when listening to lesser songs that many less devoted fans or non-fans might classify as unlistenable dreck. Just like someone looking at a canvas from Duchamp, Kandinsky, or Pollock might see beauty where others question the whole point of the work. To each his own!
Obviously the Gallagher brothers inspire more passionate and angry reactions than most artists. It would be interesting to get a sense of others' sensibilities and musical likes and dislikes by asking what new releases (past year or so) have really stood out above the rest. Noel's tune isn't up there for me yet (or maybe it won't be at all) - Lately I've been entranced by Adele's tune "Rolling In The Deep", what a great pop hit to hear on the radio.
