Very interesting video. Seems like it was filmed on an old cellphone though.

That's just a low rez copy for facebook.  Here's a link to a better quality version:  http://www.youtube.com/user/MrHawthorne?feature=mhee#p/a/u/1/q3zqUU73riY

The show David is promoting is to raise money for the Hawthorne Historical Society who are trying their best to preserve what's left of the historical sites of Hawthorne. Unfortunately, since this video was shot much of Hawthorne High, including Brian's old music room, has been torn down.  However, the football field is still there and the concert on July 16th will go on as planned...it could be your last chance to see that part of Beach Boys' history so I hope you'll make it.  Even if you can't make it...buy a ticket anyway at HawthorneHistorical.com since its for such a great cause.  The City is trying to raise enough money to found a Hawthorne Museum which will, of course, highlight one of the City's greatest exports...The Beach Boys.

Figures.  Just get done watching it, and THEN, the posting about a better view.  just my luck.
Watching it, I thought it was a recent filming, so when was Hawthorne demoed?  ( I don't keep up, not being there)
Don't know why, but I thought this week's festivities were happening in the rooms you mention being disappeareded.

Neat to see, no matter what!!  Wish I coulda been there for the recording.

A lot of fun!

Unfortunately, the YouTube video is encoded in the wrong aspect ratio so everything gets squished (this is a real bugaboo of mine), but it's still a wonderful trip down Mark's memory lane.

Lots of fun. Can't you just picture everything David invokes? Makes me really in the mood for that Frosty Freeze ice cream just now...

This kind of living testimonial preservation is so vital to understanding the resonant historical textures of the places and the times that have been paved over into parking lots, paraphrasing Ms. Mitchell.

Thank you for this personal tour of the hood, David.

Cool videos. I spent the first 5 years of my life on W. 124th Street but really don't remember much of life in Hawthorne.

Great video. I love how normal and approachable David seems, especially considering how very strange the rest rest of these fellows are these days. What a great guy to spend an afternoon with.

Thanks for posting that video link, Carrie! I am truly impressed at how good David's memory is -- and he's an excellent tour guide.

Did you know any of the BBs then?

They were before my time. I know people who knew them. Or at least Carl. They used to listen to them practice in their garage but I don't if they ever really got to know any of them.
