In light of like 3/4 of the Beach Boys song articles being deleted from the proper wikipedia (meanwhile, trash like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CGF_Z3yZAo this has a wiki article for, I don't know, being done more recently?), I wanted to know if anyone would be interested in getting anything like this going? Obviously stuff like Andrew's site is invaluable to a fan, but I was compiling a mix for a few friends over the last few weeks and was looking for specific info on some songs and just couldn't find it. There's so much to know if you're interested and, unfortunately, it can be hard to track it all down sometimes.

I know nothing about getting one started, but would love to contribute! What says you?

Meh. The whole idea is for everyone to contribute a bit, thus everyone from n00bz to someone like Andrew can have a part in it. Good tiemz will be had by all, rest assured.

Depends: what would be put on there that isn't already on Wikipedia?

I suppose it'd be good to have articles about their more obscure or unreleased songs since Wikipedia doesn't consider those notable enough. And the biographies on Wikipedia are a bit too slim for their own good.

Song articles?
If I'm thinking and looking right, I just saw a "song article" for Surfin'....am I thinking of the right thing?

Well if that's the case, boy am I glad I bought the BB Wikipedia book...anyone else own that?

Exactly, regarding slimness etc. of the articles there. It'd just be something to specialize in Beach Boys info. Any songs, listings and details of alternate versions, edits, mixes, etc. any people associated with the band, any albums, unreleased albums, anything.

Another personal reason I was looking for this sort of info is I've been collecting stereo/mono mixes, single mixes and edits, that sort of thing. The stereo and mono thing was easy with the bellagio site, but the others get a bit trickier.

I think a Beach Boys Wikipedia would be pretty cool and I would probably use it a lot. Who played what & sang on each song, etc. The actual Wikipedia pages are pretty weak with the information that's out there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smiley_Smile

That's an example of a pretty damn weakipedia page. And I know the information is out there so it's definitely expanduponable.

I'd love to be a part of it but my knowledge is pretty ehhhhhh. I would be willing to moderate and proofread it.

Another important thing is that it would need a really cool name.... Seriously. Can't make a Wiki-type site without a cool name.  Cool Guy

But what?

This is interesting because I've found specialised Wikia sites very useful in the past (especially ones dedicated to TV shows, should one be nerdy enough to need one). Wikipedia has become too restricting; limited song pages only to those that are (in its' eyes) "noteworthy" or were released as singles... or every song on Pet Sounds.

Also, Smileypedia has a nice ring to it.

Good wiki names, such as Wookiepedia (star wars) or Brickipedia (lego)  play on the name Wikipedia in a clever way, but with the exception of Wilsonpedia (which would be appropriate for a Brian Wilson Wiki, but not the BB imo), there is little in the BB universe that lends itself to a play on the word Wiki. As such I'd suggest the plain and simple 'Beach Boys Wiki'. Smileypedia, although great to lovers of Smile and the Smiley album (and this board) just seems a  bit niche to me, much that I like it. Sorry to be dull.

I was totally joking with all those names, haha. I thought that'd be well understood with stuff like Wouldntitbeniceapedia and such Smiley

Yeah, I didn't mean your selection of names - more that 'smileypedia' was gaining favour within this thread, not that I don't like it as a name. I just thought 'Beach Boys Wiki' might serve the purpose better. Anyway, whatever name is chosen, I agree a dedicated BB wiki is a great idea. Would love to offer my assistance but to be honest I didn't even pick up on the 'Brian's sister' gaff in the Mojo 60s article!
