There's a whole tribute album featuring covers including some "punk" type covers (I haven't listened to it in eons after picking it up years ago on CD at Streetlight Records, so I'm sure some would be more "indie" or something rather than true "punk"), titled "Smiles, Vibes, and Harmony", and it even has an old thread here: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?topic=526.0

I'm a huge Ramones fan, and I've always loved their version of 'Do You Wanna Dance,' which is definitely based on the BB's arrangement as mentioned above. 'Souped up' indeed!
