Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Feel Flows box set

Another lurker pitching in here. I've been a fan since 2013 when a friend bought the 50 Big Ones album. The 70's are my favorite period of Beach Boys music, and Sunflower is one of my favorite albums of all time - I listen to it more than Pet Sounds if I'm being honest. When I first heard about the copyright releases in 2015 I realized that eventually unreleased and alternate material from the 1970's would probably come out. I've been looking forward to an archival release from Sunflower since then. I bought Sunshine Tomorrow and the 1968 session albums released a couple of years ago, and every year I look forward to the unearthing of unreleased material. This box set would make my year.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Idea for Record Store Day 2018
|
on: April 25, 2017, 03:50:37 AM

I was thinking about how Bambu was released for Record Store Day this past weekend, and other Beach Boys rarities that could be released next year when I got an idea. What if Brother Records released a limited pressing of Adult Child next year? It isn't very commercially viable as a wide release, but could it be a possibility as a limited release? Record Store Day would do most of the marketing for them, so that wouldn't be as much of a concern either.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SmileySmile Unofficial C50 Audio Project....(Cause the official one blows!)

The best possible scenario for fans is to piece together all of the soundboard recordings out there (the Japan TV broadcast is the main source, and then some tracks not included in that TV airing are on a few other recordings, including the UK radio broadcast), and then fill in the gaps with the best audience recordings (and a few tracks from the official live album if one is willing to fly those in). The entire performance was taken off of Youtube, I think, but I'm sure some people around here have it saved to their hard drives

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Yes we love Pet Sounds, but 2017 will be the 40th anniversary of Love You!! :O

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Imagine "Love You" performed or even re-recorded without all the dated synths. Instead bring in Brian's band and a more complete production. If I remember correctly, even Carl Wilson once remarked that the album was "unfinished" or something along those lines. That would turn it from an album that is half loved and half hated by the fanbase into an album that's hated by the entire fanbase. The songs just wouldn't work with a mid-60's style backing band. The lyrics are childlike and silly, and the synths add to that feeling. Adding Brian's backing band would make the ridiculous lyrics stick out like a sore thumb.

Part One: 1962-66 I've always thought that the early albums had a lot of filler, so I've combined the following to make new albums: Surfin' Safari, Surfin' USA and Surfer Girl have been combined to create Catch a Wave Shut Down Vol. 2 and All Summer Long have been combined to create All Summer Long The Beach Boys Today and Summer Days have been combined to create The Beach Boys Today!
Catch a Wave (1963)
SIDE ONE
Surfin' Safari Surfin' U.S.A. Catch a Wave Surfer Girl Farmer's Daughter Little Deuce Coupe Be True to Your School
SIDE TWO

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Making An Alternate Album With Beach Boys 1985 and Brian Wilson 1988
|

While many people have tried making alternate tracklists blending BB85 and Still Cruisin', the idea never seemed to work for me. The production just sounded too different. The closes thing production-wise to BB85, at least to me, is Brian's 1988 solo album. It's tricky, but I think I've made a decent album out of the two albums:
Side 1 Getcha Back It's Gettin' Late Walkin' the Line Melt Away She Believes In Love Again It's Just a Matter of Time One For the Boys
It kind of works, but I think it could be better. I'm posting this because I want to see what other people on this board can come up with. Side 2 Love and Mercy Where I Belong I Do Love You Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight Rio Grande
