The one review I read in Pitchfork was fot XTC's recent single "Spiral" . They panned it. I heard it, and loved it. Havent been back since. As far as new music goes, for the most part, you can have it.

This track goes back to the Hamburg days so it probably is a pisstake.
In fact, on the live Hamburg LP you can hear Lennon altering the lyrics to "Here I am on my nose, begging if you please".

Tribal gathering too, yep, forgot about that. Some staggering harmonies there.

Notorious has two great Crosby tunes,  Draft Morning and Dolphin Smile. Plus "Triad" as a bonus track.
Also a Gary Usher production , Matinee.
Go get it, it's good. Better than good.

Which lyric do you think made the FBI more nervous?

If i had one thing bad to say about "When I get Home" It'd be about the middle 8.
It does'nt flow well with the song and "Im gonna love her 'till the cows come home" is probably the worst lyric Lennon ever penned.

I would agree that the convenience of music has de-valued it somewhat.
But it's mostly the lack of quality product combined with that.
So I think this is more of a comment on the current music landscape of today and how their target audience (kids) experience and access it.

Genres really bug me too, because they promote preconcieved notions.
There's only two types of music- Good and Bad.

"Punk ain't no religious cult- Punk means thinking for yourself"
50  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The New Wave Appreciation Thread on: January 09, 2006, 09:48:40 AM
Right, the term "New Wave" was a more palatable marketing term designed to sell records to people who incorrectly assumed that any music that was new, was "punk". To the FM radio set, currently grooving to Southern Rock and the stagnant classic rock fare, New=punk, and punk=bad.
As a result, many bands like Tom Petty, were incorrectly pigeonholed. No one really complained tho, and why would they?
They were finally getting their sh*t played on the radio.
