Strange World and Summer's Gone? The worst tracks? What???
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian with Jeff Beck Fall Tour Dates on: October 16, 2013, 08:00:35 PM
Holy crap, Brian sounds fantastic on both of those songs. I can't get over it.

When the strings kick in on "We're together again" and the harmonies start going it's every bit as sweet a feeling as the ending to GOK.

Absolute magic.

Of all the great songs that have been left off of Beach Boys studio albums, this is the one that puzzles me the most. I absolutely love this song.

Rock and Roll Music. I cannot for the life of me understand why this is included on so many best-of compilations and why it was at the end of the C50 setlist amongst songs like GV, CG, etc. It's embarrassingly bad. The Beatles did it much, much better. Let it die.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Isn't It Time (brand new[er] mix) on: March 31, 2013, 08:40:44 PM
I was just listening to the song today and thinking that someone should do this. Looking forward to hearing it.

Other than Summer of Love, I don't find anything on SIP to be particularly offensive. I like the album quite a bit.

I heard "The Trader" on XM"s "The Loft" the other day. I had to do a double take.

Wow...surprised to see Mona at the bottom of so many lists.

I really dig the Knebworth recording, all the other (studio) versions never did it for me.

My feelings exactly.

Well, this was certainly a pointless thread. Nice work, OP.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Crazy thought: Best Beach Boys album after Pet Sounds is... on: December 05, 2012, 07:51:17 PM
No kidding? Mona is far and away my favorite song on Love You.

Love You is all about a mood, if you're feeling EXTREMELY down, or EXTREMELY up, then the songs click.

For example...
Break up? Listen to "The Night Was So Young" - that is just amazing for that
Kiss the girl? - Listen to "Let Us Go On This Way"

It's very quirky, you need to be in certain moods, but when you are.... DAMN this is an amazing album (Except Mona, sorry!)

Shake It Records in Cincinnati has most of them.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian and Dennis's late '70s vocals on: November 22, 2012, 08:25:44 PM
Dennis' vocal on Mona is fantastic. My favorite song on Love You.

Jeff sings part of the Bill/Sue chorus? Wow...I'll have to go back and listen...

They wrecked it. They did something similar with the single of Somewhere Near Japan.

The only thing I noticed different on the two versions of SNJ was the intro part. What did I miss?
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: ISN'T IT TIME SINGLE VERSION (BBC Radio 2) LISTEN NOW on: September 03, 2012, 07:52:01 PM
They get points for the intro harmonies...however, they eliminated the harmonies leading into the bridge for some strange reason. Speaking of the bridge...Good God. The original bridge wasn't great, but this is just an absolute mess. Why not let Bruce sing the bridge? And the new lyrics suck.

It's an absolute waste of time to promote this to radio. If they're looking for radio play, I'd push Strange World to indie radio, a la The Spectrum.
I'll stick with the album version.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Isn't It Time is next single on: August 24, 2012, 08:59:20 PM
Assume they played the version off the TWGMTR album but maybe they had a CD single, I dunno.  I'm not real hot for the song myself but I was real surprised to hear it on "Deep Tracks".  Like the 60's channel though, they did play TWGMTR back in early July.

I heard "Strange World" on Deep Tracks on my way to work one morning last week.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why aren't the Beach Boys ever played on classic rock radio? on: August 19, 2012, 09:00:24 AM
Sounds like the blathering man you're referring to is "Cousin Brucie." Yea, he never shuts up.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alternate take of WIBN used in an episode of The Wonder Years? on: August 18, 2012, 08:22:29 AM
I feel like they did the same thing with WIBN in the Seinfeld episode "The Hamptons."

Also, The Wonder Years is the greatest.

Sirius/XM channel Deep Tracks regularly plays SUNFLOWER through HOLLAND era tracks.

Yup. I actually heard "Strange World" on Deep Tracks this morning.
