Video of a Rhonda Session including Murray. Towards the end there's a little melodrama done by Murray.

I really never liked Fun, Fun, Fun. I like a lot of their early stuff but FFF has always sounded so cheesy. Also, I like I Get Around but off the bat you can definitely tell it's not a Brian Wilson song and it never fit in with a lot of their music.

Please explain why one of Brian's greatest songs is not his? And how does it not fit with their music? I've read a lot of strange comments on this message board and this is right up there.

Sorry, I should rephrase my statement as it sounded incredibly vague and misleading.

I've always felt that I Get Around didn't fit in with their other 1964-era music and didn't sound like a song composed by BW. To me, it always sounded like the song haphazardly found its way into All Summer Long.  However I don't think I can elaborate any further as to why I feel this way exactly.

Actually I know why, up until know I've been viewing I Get Around as apart of All Summer Long as opposed to just a single. Derp!

5  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / How will/have you introduce(d) the Beach Boys to your children on: October 30, 2012, 02:00:52 AM
I've been wondering if I should raise my future kids with the Beach Boys. From my experience with my father I've learned that forcing the music will never work. I'm curious as to how you guys plan to integrate the Beach Boys' music into their lives. And for older members, if your children took the "bait" and what they think of the group now.

I never thought Brian would be a Twilight Zone fan.  Cool

I'm a little nervous to say that I do like "Little Tomboy". I don't suffer any mental disorders. I just like the song but I hate the lyrics. It's like "I'd love to pick you up", catchy but creepy lyrics

Hello fellow members, I'm currently in high school and I love the beach boys(understatement).  I wanted to know more about the BBs and found this nice cozy forum and lurked around as a guest. I've had many questions I wanted answered about the BBs so I decided to join this forum. My last experiences with forums were not great due to the rowdiness of the users but I quite like the people here in this forum.

I'm not sure how I stumbled upon the Beach Boys. My 2nd grade teacher used to play their songs while we worked so from then on I knew about the Beach Boys. I remember hearing "Don't Worry Baby" while watching Deja Vu (Although I wish there was a little bit more formal). I was captivated by their vocals partly because of my love of harmonies in jazz. After searching their songs on Youtube, I was a Beach Boys fan. 2 years later and I know and have heard all of their music except for the exclusive ones on the Good Vibrations set.

One thing that I remember vividly was the jump I took from Summer Days and Nights to Pet Sounds (I like to listen to albums chronologically, don't ask why) . It took a few weeks a many tries to get used to the new sounds. Now I wonder how I was so stupid to doubt the excellence of Pet Sounds. And afterwards I  gradually listened to each of their albums one-by-one.

The Beach Boys is my favorite band and I have in a way a man-crush on Brian and Carl Smiley. I listen to them almost everyday as well as other music.

I know this is kind of a long intro but my love for the BBs is great and their music has helped me out many times so I guess there is little I can do to help! Smiley

Sadly, High school music doesn't teach this stuff anymore. What a shame :/

Right now in High School, as soon as I mentioned that I liked the Beach Boys, there is an immediate backlash coming mostly out of the fanbase of the more popular late 60s-70s-80s rock bands such as Queen and Led Zeppelin. I think that the current image of the beach boys in most of the adolescents of my generation is a band consisting of only cheesy, surfing, and fun in the sun songs.

Not surprisingly even after exposing a friend to the bands more successful music post-1965, he still thought of it as cheesy. And to tell you the truth, I expected it. Suddenly since after hard rock's bloom in the recent past, a lot of teenagers can't see anything sophisticated, artistic, and catchy in anything BBs , or in a lot of pop-rock music from the 60s. The exception being the silly attention whores on Youtube who continually express their disappointment in their generation. Tongue
