If Mike wasn't in the band, would he be the most hated gas station attendant in greater Los Angeles area?

Little bird up in a tree.
129  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: You have 10 Albums….. on: May 14, 2015, 03:31:24 AM
1. Surfin' Safari
2. Little Deuce Coupe
3. All Summer Long
4. Pet Sounds
5. Smiley Smile
6. Wild Honey
7. 20/20
8. Sunflower
9. Surf's Up
10. Love You

...that was surprisingly easy. Maybe I'd swap Sunflower or Surf's Up for POB, but who knows.

I can't find the proof but wasn't "And Then I Kissed Her" released as a single in 1967, at least in the UK? a horrible move.

Yeah, and of ALL the songs, they chose THAT? I mean, even from the same album album, there would have been many more cutting-edge songs to choose from.
131  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alternate universe where Carl leaves instead of David. What happens?? on: May 09, 2015, 01:10:17 PM
That would have been tragic, but I believe the lyrix would have been even better. Being full-time lyrics guy who doesn't see every night how the crowd goes crazy about the old surfin' hits, he could have developed into a proper poet. Still, I'm glad he was and still is the front man.
132  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What a Beautiful day!! ( ck alert) on: May 06, 2015, 04:13:05 AM
I understand her. She's had a rough couple of years lately, losing her home and so on... And as she probably DID play on some sessions for the song, it's no wonder she thinks she's on the record. Now, it's no wonder she doesn't want to lose that glory, not after so many years.

And, I've said this before, you guys should just leave her be. The historians know the score, that's enough for me.

She sure does have a foul mouth/fingers, though. It's nice to know that being a jerk on the internet is not exclusively for young and middle-aged people.
133  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Meeting Brian Wilson on: May 05, 2015, 03:44:23 AM
Okay, my stories: in 2012, I was in Berlin to see the Boys. A friend of mine had a nice room in some fancy hotel downtown, but on the last minute I decided to book a dorm bed in a cheap hostel, to save some money... The next day, my friend told me that the Beach Boys had been staying in the same hotel as she, and they had been meeting fans and signing stuff in the lobby. So I almost met Brian!

While I was in L. A. last year I went to the deli where Brian frequents. I've never drank a cup of coffee so slowly... I wasn't stalking or anything, but hey, if hey would have happened to come there, it would have been something! Alas, he didn't show up.

That same evening I went to Bellagio 10452. The gates were closed, but I parked my car outside, took out my harmonica and recorded some noodling on my iPhone, just to be able to say I have recorded at Bellagio 10452! My beautiful improvisation was interrupted when the gate started to open and some big guy started to walk towards me. That's when I decided the session is over and I split. So there, try to beat that, storytellers!

Perkele, I'm embarassed, that's the one. Thanks!

Please, do bore, I haven't heard that one and search "Brian Rhapsody in Blue" doesn't help.

I thought you were talking about acid, but actual cross-America trek would be even cooler. Maybe even more so on acid! Haven't done it, but I'm definitely interested. Autumn 2017, let's do it. Who's in?

I'm a cork on the ocean, floating over the raging sea.
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's worst vocal arrangement on: April 27, 2015, 10:47:22 PM
someone here pointed out once how basic the arrangement for 'Do It Again' is, compared to what Brian was truly capable of. it's not surprising that he may have "switched to auto pilot" on some things as the years went on.

Yeah, but the whole song is basically just one chord... I qgree, there's nothing that flashy going on, but the arrangement is very effective in it's simplicity. Verses building that tension, waiting for the fun - and then the chorus arrives and they'te doing it again, hey now!

But hey, the "rock with me Henry" -version of Wonderful doesn't really work, does it? No wonder he scrapped it.
139  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Brian's worst vocal arrangement on: April 27, 2015, 01:53:29 PM
Do you think Brian has ever failed when working his harmony magic? Can you think of any Beach Boys or solo songs on which his vocal arrangements sound poorly constructed or not properly thought out?

Me, I can't think of any.

EDIT: Of course, I can think of many cases where those arrangements are performed in a less-than-stellar fashion, but even in those cases the actual arrangement is often pretty damn clever.
140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What if- instead of the Lil Deuce Couple LP.. on: April 25, 2015, 03:41:58 PM
Better than Smile. Deal with it.

You know, I have to agree.

Smiley Smile / Love You. The package would also contain a magical sugar cube and a couple of spliffs.
142  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What do we know about Judy Bowles? on: April 15, 2015, 04:11:15 AM
English isn't your first language, is it ? I'm guessing, not second either.

People from all language backgrounds dig the BB's, and it only goes to show how the boys' music crosses all borders and language barriers with its message of love, acceptance, tolerance and surfin'.
143  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brianisms Appreciation Thread on: April 13, 2015, 11:55:22 AM

Wish to hell I could recall which UK rock mag it was, maybe ten years ago or thereabouts, but Brian was being asked about Dennis and his music. I paraphrase, of course, but his reply went something like:

"Well, he was a real man, he had intercourse with many women - Mike's wife, Al's wife, my wife..."

And yes, he said "intercourse", not "sex".  Shocked

Q magazine, Cash for questions, around BWPS! I remenber that. I already knew about the legend of Brian Wilson and the fact that he's not like everybody, but wasn't a fan yet, but after reading that I remember thinking he sure is something else.

Nothing wrong with little intercourse every now and then, btw. Can't blame Dennis.
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: When Was Dennis At His Peak as a Songwriter? on: April 03, 2015, 03:53:33 AM
He reached his first peak around Surf's Up, but alas, those songs weren't used. Maybe that hit him hard, and I don't think he really shone on CATP/Holland. Then he reached his second peak during POB, and after that he wrote some good stuff too, but nothing THAT peaky.
145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mowing The Yard Twice on: April 02, 2015, 05:50:16 AM
I live on a farm, and the mowing the whole lawn takes about 4-5 hours. So there's no way in hell I'm going to mow it twice. But then again, Brian is a genius and I'm not.

Rest in peace. I don't know why, but this really got to me.
147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brianfest announced on CBS Sunday Morning on: March 29, 2015, 08:09:13 AM
Glad to hear. But man, it saddens me to think these all could be Beach Boys fests and events and appearances. Well, bygones.
148  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Understanding Humor & Laughter During The SMiLE Era. on: March 19, 2015, 02:58:49 AM
What's the story about Brian dreaming up a movie about a chicken running around wearing tennis shoes or something like that? Where was that mentioned? Man, that would have been great.

The guy has a point. My thoughts exactly.

Sounds pretty mellow and easy-going. I didn't pick any instant hooks or killer melodies from those snippets, but can't wait to hear the whole album!
