Fun article to read...gives a nice little glimpse into each personality. Also interesting to note that Mike obviously grew into his appreciation of fine cutlery as there is no mention of it here.

How long can I go on this way?

Telescope Love should have been the name of the album

Not that this should come as any surprise for anyone, but on the BBB Bruce today mentions future bookings in process....All the way into 2017, so I would venture to guess this doesn't bode well for any reunion within the next few years.

Some news: We have booked 75% of our 2015 concert dates and we are trying for Australian dates for Novemberish 2015 or March 2016. We are even booking 2016 dates and planning out 2017.

from Chapter 252: The Case Against Alan Jardine (Continued)

Alan Jardine can't let things go. He professes to follow the teachings of the Maharashi Mahesh Yogi, but his true guru seems to be bitterness... and the "Man from Monterey" sure knows how to nurse a decades-long grudge instead of letting the good vibrations flow. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get along? God only knows why he persists in saying terrible things about me in interviews, always painting the Beach Boys as heroes and villains. Guess who he calls the villain! All I want to do is spread positivity all summer long.  It pains me deeply as a bandmember and lifelong friend to say this, but he just can't let things go.

Take for example 1998. Carl Wilson had  passed on after a brave struggle. Zeppo Wilson was moving heaven and earth to keep things afloat, the family really came together and I was an entertaining an offer to play the Super Bowl without Al Jardine. But where others saw reasons to come together, Al Jardine saw an opportunity: in his twisted mind he figured they could continue being the Beach Boys without me! I didn't even know who Peter Cetera was but he thought he and Cousin Brian would somehow make up for the lack of Mike Love. He didn't understand that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, and how we each make such wonderful, endless harmony together. So I had no choice but to remove him from the band to preserve the wonderful group we maintain to this day playing shows from coast to coast, country to country, paying tribute every night to the talents of Carl, Dennis, and Brian.

There isn't a tribute to Al Jardine, and it's not just because my band can do a much better "Help Me Rhonda" or an even sweeter "Then I Kissed Her," and it's not even because he warned us not to use his likeness on the video projections -- it's because I still can't believe how he tried to arrange some sort of symphonic "Beach Boys" Pet Sounds tour without me! Without I, Mike Love... who penned the immortal words "good night baby, sleep tight baby." That hook that everybody remembers and helped put our track in every romantic comedy and car commercial we rented it to. How could you possibly perform Pet Sounds without that?

Jardine thinks we are somehow "cheapening the legacy," just like he does when my good friend John Stamos from television's hit series "Full House" would join us on stage to play a hot guitar solo or show us he knows how to play the drums. Alan would make a face, a sour face that was totally against our fun in the sun image... but that's just because he can't let go. Can't move on from the past, can't embrace the future and "do it again." What he did to me in the 90s I will never forget, they say betrayal comes in many forms but it's most upsetting form has got to be a small man with orange hair in a white suit.

Alan Jardine just can't let things go.

Ontor, you obviously have gotten your hands on a first draft copy of the manuscript....You must share other chapters.  Grin

Do author's still do book store signings? I ask the question because it seems there are hardly anymore book stores in existence. Mike could hit a lot of cities tying in a book tour with his regular one.

Oh, and I'll go on record now saying that the forward will be written by John Stamos.

Certainly in December, their shows tend to have a strong seasonal bias. Odd, that.  Roll Eyes

The audience last year:

 LOL

I understand "Frosty the Snowman" was met with a huge applause, however, the rest of the show was met with a rather cool response.

Beach Boys hat, check. Beach Boys shirt, check.

"Say, is that guy one of the Beach Boys?"

Funny subject matter this one… agree with just about every post made so far! Bruce is a public figure and I guess things like this to with the territory, but everyone's entitled to their privacy (unless you're one if those celeb-types who make their living from washing your laundry in public, which Brice certainly isn't). Bruce's private life has always been a private private life and if he chooses to keep it that way then that should be his right.

My own interest would be aroused if he'd released a raft of songs based on love life experiences. But he hasn't. When it has no impact on the music, then wanting to know strikes me as a tad stalker-ish. I feel like a rubbernecker even adding to this thread.

Respect his privacy, and especially Harriet's as she's not to my knowledge ever been a publicity seeking celeb-wife.

Bruce's next solo album title; "Goin' Private"

I had never seen this whole video before (thanks for posting). Looks like the crowd had a good time that day. I can almost envision James Watt walking the Mall long after the show ended and just shaking his head at the thousands of empty beer cans and bras littering the lawn.  LOL

If someone saw ONE THIRD of the C50 shows, including the last ones in London, and said those were the best.....That's good enough for me.

What's not been mentioned is the revenue generated from Mike's sales of high end cutlery for the discerning single man, that he sells out of the back of the tour bus.

My girlfriend didnt know anything before but now loves them! She's gone with me to the C50 show in Montreal, Mike & Bruce in the shitty venue last year and to see Brian & Al & Jeff Beck in Toronto also last year. She loves the early stuff, specially songs like I get around and California Girls, but more and more she's getting the post PS stuff.

She does think that my obsession is at times a bit too much (like going to Toronto to watch the Love & Mercy premiere) but she supports me.

Her fav BB is Al, she thinks he's cute in a sort of old gnome type of way. She likes Brian and after hearing his story from me (over and over again) she has a lot of respect for him. But she prefers Mike as a frontman. Dont think she knows who Bruce is...mmm...

Anyways I'm lucky, my dementia has a cool, loving and supportive significant other  Smiley

Schiaffino, I too was at the C50 Montreal show. If you saw an enthusiastic guy enjoying the show with his wife sound asleep in the seat next to him...that was me. I don't think I need to explain how my wife feels about the Beach Boys.

I've got to think $100K is a bit above what the Mike and Bruce band typically get for a gig, no?

Why would you think that?

Not being familiar with the economics of booking acts it seems like a lot of money. I realize there are many expenses, taxes, rights, etc. but still seems like a good amount to command for one performance. Good for them.

120  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Foskett Chronicles? on: August 29, 2014, 05:58:45 AM
Many people don't realize this but several years ago, Foskett did attempt to an autobiography. It was never published but drafts of it have leaked out to certain people. I obtained a copy. Here are a few excerpts:

From Chapter Six ("Hearing Pet Sounds in Cleveland")

We had just begun touring Pet Sounds and I was getting acquainted with everybody. Once, in Florida, we stopped at a diner and I ordered a chocolate shake. Brian looked at me and said, "Hey, it's Chocolate Shake Man! It's Chocolate Shake Man!" We all laughed. I said, "Right on, Brian." The next day we get together and rehearse. Brian was sitting behind the keyboard when I walked in. He said, "There's our Chocolate Shake Man!" Everybody laughed again. I said, "Right on, Brian." After that, he kept calling me Chocolate Shake Man at every opportunity he could. One time, we were in an important meeting with Sanctuary Records, trying to secure a deal for Pet Sounds Live. An executive introduced himself to us. He said, "And who are you?" I said, "I'm Je..." I looked over at Brian who shot me an angry look. I looked back at the executive. "I'm Chocolate Shake Man," I told him. The executive quickly moved on to someone else.

A few weeks later, we were at a diner and I ordered a strawberry shake. Someone (I won't say who) pulled me aside and told me that they didn't approve of my order, and that if I didn't order a chocolate shake pronto, I would be left at the next truck stop. I'm still not sure why they wouldn't have just left me at the diner, rather than drive to a truck stop. I asked, but the person didn't have a very good idea why either. Needless to say, I ordered a chocolate shake because I like the drink anyway.

From Chapter Seven ("On the Road Again")

I had a great stage banter idea. I approached Brian one day and said, Brian, I have this good idea for a joke you can tell on stage. He looked back, smiling. I said, "You can ask everyone in the audience to hold up their lighter." He giggled at this. Then I said, "Then you can say, 'I'm going to count the lighters.'" He started to laugh. "Then you can just start counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6." He was really guffawing now. I was quite pleased with myself until I looked behind me and realized that Brian was watching an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond the whole time. It was one about Ray being aggravated by his mother. We both sat and watched the episode together. The next day, Darian pitched him the same joke and Brian went for it in a big way.

From Chapter Three ("Listen to the Band")

Originally the name was Papa Papa Doo Doo Run Run. And while I wasn't in the band yet, I knew that this was a big mistake. I said, "That sounds stupid." They asked why. And I said that I thought the name was a bit too long. And so they came back with Papa Doo Doo Run Run. And I said, "No, that still doesn't work." And they came back with Papa Doo Run Run. I was getting pretty irritated at this point so I just said, "Yeah, great. Whatever." They seemed happy with this response and the rest was history.

LOL Some great ones in this thread...We really should have a section titled "Beach Boys Fiction"

Thanks for the great interview! Incredibly interesting. I got a chuckle at the end of the interview when Al revealed that the broken-leg incident wasn't Brian's fault.

Gotta love Al...."that must have been traumatic, I know it was for me"
Lol
