Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did The Association fill the void left by The Beach Boys from 1967-68?

Perhaps a weird, morbid thing to bring up...but why isnt Brian Cole included with the 27 club? Maybe the Association wasnt as immediately innovative as the Experience, Holding Company, Doors and Rolling Stones...but he was there, he was talented, a star, he sold records and his band was part of that scene including Monterey. Seems really petty and stupid to leave him out, and I think it unfairly washes the Association from history to do so.
Also...what is it with tragic Brians in Rock? Brian Wilson, Brian Jones, Brian Cole? Hmmm....
He was 29

and then I was reminded of an article detailing the astrological significance of the Beatles - Fire Sign John, Air Sign Paul, Water Sign George, Earth Sign Ringo John and Paul are both Air signs and George and Ringo are both Water signs. It's CSNY who have that complete elemental representation. The original Eagles were all Water signs.

Now if they can get Beatles cartoons and Shea Stadium remastered, I would be a happy bunny!
Who holds the rights on the Beatles cartoons? The Beatles. I personally hope they don't get an official release, they are horrible. They're great. But, I don't mind if they are "officially unreissued", you can see or buy them in numerous places on the internet. Right, watching them as a 9 year old is what got me into the Beatles. The Strawberry Fields Forever and Tomorrow Never Knows episodes are especially trippy

The Byrds - Farther Along
For me, it was real hard when McGuinn decided to disband the Clarence White era of the Byrds. They made a bunch of really great records, some of them not very well known. Farther Along has Clarence singing the title tune as well as a beautiful weeper, Bugler. "Dry your eyes and stand up straight, Bugler's got a place at the Pearly Gates, say goodbye, oh say goodbye....." That was a gosh darn fine band McGuinn/White/Gene Parsons and John York or Skip Battin. I disagree with none of this

Admittedly, these guys eluded me for years. Maybe it's my old curmudgeonly self lately but this band has really begun to hit a few spots with me. Besides, what's not to love about soft rock?
Baby I'm A Want You is a fantastic song. It has a haunting quality to it that is just beautiful. Hey anyone remember that episode of "The Wonder Years" where Kevin buys Winnie a "Bread" LP for Christmas but he feels funny about going in and purchasing it because they were a "chick band"? That just came to mind, funny stuff. there was another episode where Wayne sings a tragicomic version of "If" to a girl he digs
