"Louie, Louie" -- definitely Carl singing

Has any Pet Sounds issue correctly identified Al as one of the "I Know There's An Answer" lead singers?

And of course, "Summertime Blues" - Carl on at least one of the vocals, and according to the engineer voice-over on UM1, "Ni[c]k."

Not to mention countless Theremin references (then why did I mention it?)...most recently appearing in a Goldmine article, which prompted a letter-to-the-editor from, as Domenic Priore would say, "yours truly."

whatd they do for the tribute?

The insincere tribute to Dennis that Ian mentioned??

Well, I'm too frightened to dig out our VHS copy, so this is going by memory...

Carl gave a brief spiel about Dennis, and said something like "This next song is about where he is right now." And Carl sang "Heaven," and even though the song itself isn't a song about loss, Carl obviously had a hard time getting through it, but he did. And afterwards Brian said this: "We love you, man, and we want you to know...you'll always be with us wherever you go." Kind of embarrassing, really.

Someone on bw.com posted a link to this -- wasn't this the book that's supposed to be cancelled? Interestingly, they supposedly have a USED copy available, too.

Wasn't available on amazon.com...

I gave a copy of the DCC gold disc version of Pet Sounds to one of the marketing guys at the radio station where I worked, sort of as an "I'm going away" present. He's a major collector, and between him and his wife they had over 4000 CDs in their collection, but he said he never got around to getting Pet Sounds, which is why I got it for him. He called me a few days later to thank me, and he said he was really blown away..."Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but they did all that on just four tracks?!" "Wow, very emotional..."

Every single word that's spoken in between songs was obviously rehearsed. Most of what you hear isn't even live, once you even see the drummer walking away from his drumkit after a song while you still hear him playing!

I seem to remember that Lauri Klobas, former president of the Brian Wilson fan club, said that she (and possibly her husband) worked on the cue cards for that show. IIRC, she said that every single word -- including song lyrics -- was on cue cards and basically they just read everything, as if we couldn't tell. What's really amusing is that at one point Brian is standing behind Mike and he's actually squinting and reading the cue card, mouthing Mike's words with him! You'd probably think "Brian's got a line coming up or something..." well, he didn't!

Ever notice how far away Brian is positioned from the rest of the group? And how many freakin' keyboards there are among the Beach Boys and the backing musicians?
1531  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / LOTTA Saint Nick.... on: January 22, 2006, 06:34:49 AM
Okay, this is going to be kind of a pointless post, but...

It just now occurred to me that we have at least SEVEN legally-released versions of "Little Saint Nick" by either The Beach Boys or a Beach Boy [not counting mono versus stereo or by Beach Boy offspring]:
- 1963 single version
- 1964 album version
- "Drive-In" version
- instrumental track on Stack-O-Tracks
- the Children's Hospital PSA on Ultimate Christmas
- Brian's version on WIRWFC
- and, I believe on the 2000 reissue of Brian Wilson, the "you'll be hearing from me in '88" teaser has a little rendition of LSN in the background.

Weird, huh?
