Be interesting to get a real history of the band around this time. Carl's relationship with Bruce., Al's relationship with Carl at this time. So many things that we could learn from

Confirmed regarding Middle Of Nowhere...it's on the Dennis Wilson Its About Time tribute put out by ESQ.

I have the Esq discs and will check it to see if middle of nowhere is on it. I think there were two or three Esq discs and I have them all. As far as the sax version of ways of love I consider the more prominent one with Carl's vocal a better version. Personal preference.

Wow! How did we not know about these GREAT FINDS! Get these out to the public, they're fantastic! Love Jennifer Clover, has a 60's feel to it, a little like Groovy Kin Of Love.....perfection! And Middle of Nowhere, rocks!!! Great Job Jardines!!!

Wow hard to believe that video and performance of Caroline no was 20 years ago. What a difference between then and now.

I've seen the Pet Sounds tour show several times and I've seen Brian's other shows throughout the years as well. You definitely get good Brian and bad Brian depending upon what day he performs but the last show I saw of the Pet Sounds shows was really bad. I am not a fan of the talk singing and I think Brian would have been much better served had he handed all of the vocals over to Matt and Al Jardine. I love Brian I love his music I love Pet Sounds but I probably won't go and see him perform it again until the talk singing stops. IMHO

Just listened to the part about Dennis at the 29 minute Mark. Short and succinct but she speaks fondly of him and their time together.

I remember a few years ago when my wife and I were in Big Sur for vacation we found a signed copy of Postcards at one of the Big Sur retail stores. There was a whole bunch of them probably about a mile or two from Al's house. I had had two other copies but figured I'd buy a signed copy anyway, I think waves of love was on it as a bonus track too

Always liked Santa Anna Winds, the Boys had it in their set list for a short time wit KTSA came out, I have a live version of it somewhere from the DC concert from 1980. They did a good job with it live, as far as I know it hasn't been played live by them since that tour years and years ago.

Call me nuts, but I always had a soft spot for Happy Endings....I liked the melody, the vocals, and the harmony.....less Little Richard, who sort of ruined the tune in my opinion. And Loved Carl's vocal here too. Thought Melcher did a good job on his later version as well.

Strange I'm not seeing anything listed on the site except Santa Ana winds

I've never ever had an inkling that it was anybody other than Carl singing those lines. Always sounded like Carl to me. I just went back and listened again to those lines several times, and while I still believe it is Carl, I think there is at least a small possibility that it is Terry as Jude says, "trying to sound like Carl". To Jude's point I don't know how Terry's voice sounded in the 80's, but there is a hint of familiarity to his 60's sounding voice to a small degree. Again, if it is Terry, I think it was his attempt to sound like Carl, maybe at a time when Carl was unavailable. Though to my ears, it is still very likely Carl Wilson until I hear one of the principles say something different.

I haven't bought the CD yet but I listened to some of the songs on YouTube. I must say I think the album is very weak and Mike's vocals are not good with the exception of the Girl from Ipanema. That sounds like Mike and his Kokomo era voice and he actually does a pretty good job on that one. But he sounds really bad on some of the others including keeping the summer alive which is horrible. Not my Cuppa tea

First time I really ever thought about the Carl/Dino possibility....that would be amazing! There has to be better stuff floating around in the vaults then this is Elvis.

Agree with the comments posted above Bruce and Mike are completely inaudible and Scott and bass player sound like they're singing alone. Nice job but clearly not the Beach Boys it doesn't sound anything at all like them. Cover band

Probably one of the most iconic songs ever written. Certainly Harrison's best right up there with something. Such an upbeat wonderful tune and love absolutely destroys it. This guy should be ushered off the stage just for performing this song in such a poor manner. Sacrilege

I watched Mike's version of Here Comes the Sun on YouTube just now. George must be turning over in his grave it is God awful.

Great points Debbie. As I rea=call when Carl left, and Dennis was consistently absent, it was either get Brian on stage every day, or contracts may be voided because of the "1 Wilson" requirement
274  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The sound of Carl's solo albums vs other songs of the era on: June 14, 2019, 10:51:39 AM
I always thought a great show opener for Carl during that time would have been "What More Can I Say". it rocks as the opener for Album 2.
275  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's most active late-70's period on tour on: June 13, 2019, 03:29:28 AM
I always thought that possibly one of the reasons Carl decided to come back to the beach boys band was their performance without him. As we all remember from some of those televised shows the band was far from Stellar without Carl Wilson. Vocally Brian was not up to the challenge of covering Carl's lead vocals. The band itself was under rehearsed and not performing well either. I always sort of felt that Carl believed their Legacy was really hurt and maybe that was one of the reasons why he decided to come back. Who knows. But while it was sad to see Brian try to cover Carl's leads it was good to see him actually on stage at least contributing.
