Thanks for posting. I thought the orchestra was the best part of the show. The drums were mixed way too loud....completely overpowered the vocals. You could barely hear the guys singing, especially Mike and Bruce. I guess they fixed the sound a bit in the 2cd half, but damage done. Cowsil sounded fine o Darlin, but just not a fan at all of Christian Love. He just sounds so "BLAH" and bland to me. to me the worst part of the show was......Stamos. I know lots of folks love the guy, the fans sure seemed like they do cheering for everything he did. But I find his "I'm a rock star" posturing and posing just plain annoying. Oh well, thanks again for posting.

Tx, I forgot about 1971. Surprising lack of SOS, but oh well. I love Only With You, but don't share your sentiments with regards to Christian Love's voice performing it. I find him to be extremely Bland with very little tone and nothing at all like Carl's voice which is not to say anything because no one seems like carl. It's just his voice seems like nothing to me. Very Bland very boring don't see him singing this song at all

Tx for the review. Really surprised nothing from SOS box....strange considering the 50 year anniversary.  One thing a bit strange Bruce talking about being at Carneghie 50 years ago,  he wasn't touring with them at that point and wasnt at those shows as far as I know.

Saw them live on the Today show. Not sure what everyone was expecting but Mike is 80 now and it is what it is. Bruce is really looking his age too.

Very much enjoying the Box set. My favorite part is the Carnegie live discs though. They were just such a great live act during this period. If I had to compare the feel flows and sail on Sailor box sets I think of the two I prefer feel flows. Just happens to be that sunflower is my favorite recording of theirs next to pet sounds. But this one is really good too. I'm not sure what they would do for the next box release but I'm thinking it would probably be some sort of a live set. They were such a dynamic touring  group live during this time and even mid to late 70s

Awesome

I always found make it good to be difficult to listen to too many strings too much overpowering of the vocals. I think removing the strings makes this song brilliant. The same to some degree with cuddle up. Though I never had as much trouble listening to cuddle up as I did listening to make it good.

Love it! Very cool, right down to Dennis cupping his ear and Ricky drumming on SOS! Nicely done!

OMG, I can just here it now....."I was the driving force behind the hole SOS era, I had to be, cause The Wilsons, were all zoned out on drugs and alcohol, and Al didn't have enough talent. So I had to take control, and keep Blondie and Ricky in line as the new members". Can't you just here him saying this?Huh

Big improvement over the booted version.  Sounds great.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Kokomo Spirits on: October 22, 2022, 06:24:55 AM
I remember years ago, late 80s when Kokomo hit and gave their career a real shot in the arm, they tried the Club Kokomo restaurant thing. Probably Mike's idea, it flopped quickly and died a quick death. Wonder what will happen with this attempt.

If nothing else Mike is a fairly sharp business man. He knows that the only real success he could ever have or will ever have is the associated with using the name the beach boys. Mike love as a solo artist would never and will never succeed

Last week I heard Surfer Girl played 3 x in a 4 hour span. Love that song, but just shows the laziness aspect of the channel if nothing else to monitor the songs played.

It was pretty much a very lazy effort. Other channels, like E street and the Beatles, take much greater care with content. But the Beach Boys channels almost takes the same auto pilot approach that the band took in the 90s. Sad,

Interesting. Based on how he sounds, I would havevthought 1977 or later for the vocal.

I remember seeing Bruce's home on a real estate website when he was selling it. It was fairly modest but very nice with very nice views too. I remember the piano room. Looked pretty cool but

Al moved up to Big Sur around 1976. If you remember the Beach Boys It's Ok TV special from the Big Brian's Back tour of 1976, the house and  Pfeiffer beach were included in the segment of Al Performing Help Me Rhonda. Mentioned he had just recently moved there. His place in Big Sur, down Sycamore is amazing.....and yes, you can walk to Pfeiffer Beach in about a minute.

As an aside, the home that Carl and Annie rented in Malibu is also in this special, in the Paul McCartney attended Brian's birthday bash. As stated above.

Interesting, I remember that scene where Brian didn't want to get out of the car. But I don' think it was to visit Carl's wife Gina, I just think it was to get out of the car and look more closely at the house. Could be wrong, but I doubt if Gina Martin still lives there after all this time, so little is known of her today, but for some reason I thought she had remarried. Nota t all sure though.

I visited Al's house in  Big Sur a few years ago. When I say "visited" I mean I drove past the gated entrance, all the way down Sycamore Canyon road in Big Sur about 2 miles from the road after a real sharp turn by a bunch of mailboxes, just before Pfifer Beach. What I always remember as being so cool, other than a beautiful drive down a windy road on the way to the beach....there was a big old woody in the grass right across from the entrance. It was really cool....what a spot for a house!
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 60th Anniversary Tour on: August 02, 2022, 10:51:03 AM
Beg to differ, but I thought the 25th anniverrssary show was a bit of a sham. Other than when the Boys sang their own songs. But when they supported the other artists you couldn't even tell it was them on BVs. There was a ton of editing done too after the show. Just not my cup of tea.

As voted by the fans great to hear God Only Knows voted number one!

In a 5 hour span, I heard Surfer Girl 3 times, Breakaway twice, and  Marcella 3 times. The Beach Boys channel is a great concept, but it could have been so much better than this. Oh well, I'm still listening.
