Did anyone who purchased this set directly from the Beach Boys' store receive it yet? And if you have, did they send you a shipping confirmation email from them prior to delivery? I've received neither the box set nor any email informing me that it's on its way. This is so frustrating. A friend of mine got neither from his order from The Beach Boys' store. Just got the shipping confirmation email. Shipping from Austin TX via Federal Express

All I got was the e-mail saying I’d get a shipping confirmation & that was many weeks ago. Did you receive your set though or are you still waiting on it? Still waiting

I was wondering the same just the other day. Did I see correctly that he was on one of Billy Hinsche's recent videos? I haven't watched all of them.
He did call in on one of Billy's recent shows. His voice was raspy but he certainly sounded lucid. Billy often mentions that Jeff helps out with the technical aspects of all the shows, so that's a good sign.

Let's not forget Dennis' ability on piano - gosh, listen to "Piano Variations on Thoughts Of You"...or his piano and synth work on "Holy Man". Sure, these are pieces that he wrote, so it's easy to assume he just composed within his own ability to play, and it's a bit different from him sitting down and playing a similar piece composed by someone else - but reports from the time are that he sat at the piano and practiced, practiced, practiced. Hal Blaine praised his piano ability multiple times over the years!
As for Al - one impressive piece of guitar work from him, if you can find it, is when he sang and played an acoustic version of "Sloop John B." on a WNEW radio interview in 1983. Nice!
I recorded that off air at the time & still have it somewhere. I even digitized it at some point. But frankly, I didn't really find it all that impressive. As I recall, he didn't finish the song, or any of the other songs he tried at that interview.

I always believed that the chugging rhythm & somewhat slower (compared to live) tempo of this song could have been a result of Brian's heavy left hand on the piano. I can easily hear Brian doing a piano demo & then Carl & the guys turning it into the full blown production that it became. It was only natural to speed it up when performed live. It became an easy choice to be an opening song for many shows when if was first put into set lists.

When "I'm Going Your Way" was first booted, I couldn't understand why it was never released. Perhaps the Manson connection. This "new" version has me scratching my head even more. It would have fit nicely on the "Once Upon A Time in LA" soundtrack. Kudos to Mark & Alan!

Bought a copy a couple days ago with a gold stamp over the barcode that says "FOR PROMOTION ONLY Ownership Reserved By CBS Sale Is Unlawful"
Did I hit the jackpot or are some guys in suits about to show up to my house and snap my vinyl in half while snuffing it out on the ground like a cigarette?
The sleeve has a bit of ring wear but the wax looks like it hasn't been played more than a handful of time. Not a huge fan of the 80s cheese but overall it's a decent album with incredible vocals.
I have quite a few albums with that kind of stamp on them. Used to find them all the time at a used record store down the street from Tower Records. And no one's showed up at my door asking for them back. Back in my college radio days, pretty much every album in the library had that stamp. They'd often find their way to used record stores when the station would clear out stuff from time to time.

I'm expecting it to be a sunflower box set and I get shivers just thinking about it.
Needs to be a psychical release.
I hope it’s a physical release but psychical would be cool too. Is that where they just transmit it directly into our brains? I’m f***ed then... I already got a virus:lol Perhaps a psychical release (of Sunflower) would cure that.

During a chat I had with McGuinn, he gave me the entire backstory to the tune. The song -- at least McGuinn's contributions -- happened around '73 -- long before Landy -- when BW very randomly showed up at his Malibu house in the afternoon in search of piano -- literally: "Hey Rog -- you have a piano, right?"
A fair amount of partying ensued.
Long story short, McGuinn told me he woke up the NEXT morning with Brian playing the song "HARD," having run through it non-stop over the course of the night.
In the documentary "Echo in the Canyon," McGuinn said Brian came by in search of drugs unless I'm remembering. Perhaps it was drugs & a piano, in no particular order.

I THINK that GV on this compilation is the audio from the Dick Clark New Years Eve taping in late '74. I'm not positive.
I don't have the thing at hand but I think Dennis was mentioned as being present on WIBN and GV, but he wasn't on the New ear's Eve show IIRC. But obviously I was wrong before about the credits. I have to check it out later. You're right that Dennis wasn't at the NYE show. I'm wondering if the credits may not be accurate if they claim he's on GV.

I have four questions, which have been bugging me: 1) Was Bruce ever miffed with Dean Torrence grabbing co-lead vocal duties on Barbara Ann, considering the quality of his own falsetto at the time? He can barely be heard on the album, even including the extra Sessions takes - I think you can make him out talking on one of the tracks - which is surprising given his major role on God Only Knows in a few months' time. 2) I am pretty sure that on one of the 'chatter' tracks on the Sessions release, someone makes reference to LSD? Is that Brian? 3) Was Mike absent for some of the sessions? There's a run of tracks within the Sessions, where you cannot hear him and one of those songs is Hully Gully, on which he would take the lead vocal. 4) Who played the harmonica parts?
Thanks!
According to Wikipedia, here's the personnel: The Beach Boys Al Jardine – vocals, 6 and 12 string guitars, ashtray Bruce Johnston – vocals, electric bass Mike Love – vocals Brian Wilson – vocals, bass, piano, bongos Carl Wilson – vocals, 6 and 12 string guitars, bass Dennis Wilson – vocals, bongos, castanet, harmonicaAdditional musicians Hal Blaine – bongos Ray Avery – bongos Steve Korthof – bongos, tambourine Ron Swallow – tambourine Terry Melcher – tambourine Marilyn Wilson – vocals Billy Hinsche – harmonica on "Mountain Of Love" Dean Torrence – co-lead vocal on "Barbara Ann"
