Smiley Smile Stuff / DVDs and Videos / Re: Beach Boys 25 Years together show in Waikiki DVD

I recently acquired the BB 25 years together DVD off Play.com for £6.99. I had no idea this was even officially released because I have never seen it anywhere. The packaging is very poor, and the correct track sequencing isn't even on the back. When you skip to the next song while watching, it sometimes contains 2 or more songs within one track, but as far as i can ascetain, it is the whole show. The show itself is hilarious and is probably a definitive example of why some people have a low opinion of the Beach Boys, it is beyond cheese. Its good to see Brian on stage, though much of the time he is just shouting and doesn't sing that much apart from the excruciating but amusing version of 'Spirit of rock'n'roll' at the finale. I'd like to hear anyone elses opinions on this.
There's really not much I can add to this. I don't really like this DVD cause it doesn't represent the Beach Boys that I like. This is clearly a DVD for people that know the Beach Boys from Full House and Kokomo. It's embarrassing.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fans and Unreleased Versions?!

Well, sometimes there are different versions of a song, and it's the band's/record label's opinion that one version is better and sometimes you just don't agree with them. It's as simple as that.
For instance, I like the Hawthorne, CA version of Time To Get Alone better than the 20/20 version because the raw vocals sound much more intense, and I like the Smile version of Wonderful better than the Smiley Smile version because I love the harpsychord part. It has nothing to do with trying to be interesting by prefering obscure versions.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds: logical story in the lyrics?

This is the source I was talking about, just found it again: " Pet Sounds has been called an early concept album; while all the main participants repeatedly deny this, it is not difficult to discern a uniting theme - of hopes and aspirations dashed, of a search for love doomed to failure - and even, some claim, by judicious reprogramming of the CD track order, to produce a coherent storyline tracing the rise and fall of a relationship..." - Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys: the Complete Guide to their Music (Andrew G. Doe & John Tobler).

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Pet Sounds: logical story in the lyrics?

I once read somewhere that by sequencing the Pet Sounds tracks differently (and leaving out Sloop John B and the instrumentals of course), the lyrics make up a fairly logical story. So I tried it and this is what I came up with:
I'm Waiting For The Day Her old boyfriend just dumped her, he's waiting for the right moment to make a move. Here Today The start of their romance. Wouldn't It Be Nice They want to get married. I Know There's An Answer He found out this is the life he wants to live. God Only Knows They're still madly in love, but a breakup is already in the back of his mind. You Still Believe In Me He screwed up, but it seems like she forgives him. Don't Talk But in the end it turns out their love is dying. That's Not Me It's over and he's trying to pick up his life alone again... I Just Wasn't Made For These Times ...And it's not working out. Caroline No He sees her back again after a while and sees how she has changed.
I'm sure other sequences are possible, but this one seems fairly logical to me... Does anyone know if Pet Sounds was originally planned as one complete story? Any thoughts?
