I came onboard thanks to the Beach Boys medly and tge accompanied lp of greatest hits which came out in Australia. I recall vividly how EVERY song on that album was good. It also had an insert sheet which listed all the then-current reissues. I was hooked and have been since Dec. 24 1981.

I am not normally one who buys soundtracks but this one is phenomenal. The opening track absolutely nails it for me. Prior to seeing the film I read a comment here about the personal hell Brian goes through just so we can enjoy "This Whole World". Having that thought in my head and listening to the Ross collages reduces me to tears each and every time. I look forward to September to get the physical CD!

Re- Bluray vs DVD. I moved over a few years back when I bought my HD ready TV and haven't looked back since. 18 months ago I got myself a 55" 3D full HD TV and my blurays really sparkle. I can see immediately when an upscaled DVD has been "remastered" as HD, but that has been a very few and far between occurance.
A film like Love & Mercy will look good on blu-ray - that much is a given. I work in the industry, so I have been accustomed to seeing the detail in my films and TV shows for nearly a decade. The one thing I generally don't bother with is buying something on blu-ray if the source material was only ever SD. My PS3 can upscale it just as good as any Bluray containing HD material. (The PS3 was known in industry circles as having an extremely good upscaler on board).
Pal DVDs have a pixel ratio of 720 (Wide) ×576 (High) pixels (NTSC DVDs have 720x480). Bluray has 1920 Wide×1080 (high) pixels. As you can see the resolution is roughly 2x sharper. I like the extra detail HD affords and that's why I will be getting Love and Mercy on bluray. Perhaps 2 copies in case I scratch one!!

I saw it again with my fabulous wife for a 3rd time! The opening musical score reduced me to tears again. If that is how Brian hears the songs in his head, then I feel truly honoured to be able to appreciate his music as much as I do.
This viewing has had me swelling with emotion long after we left the cinema.
It is by far my favourite bio pic. I will be getting this on bluray the day it comes out.
Oh man do I hope there is an OST for this.

OK I saw it again today. Much, much better the second time around, and it was excellent the first time. The hook for me is the opening musical sequence. Goosebumps and tears all rolled into one. For the second time in 24 hours I am gob-smacked.

I saw this last night at Off Broadway in Köln. A small cinema, bt awesome sound and picture quality.
The film was very different to my expectations. It had a very documentary feel to it, especially the 60's era studio footage. I really felt like a fly on the wall.
But the soundtrack. That won me over from the first frame of film. This is something I really hope gets the red carpet treatment. If not, then I will be ripping my Blu-Ray to may my own. Gave me goosebumps throughout the whole picture.
Finally a film about the Beach Boys (well, Brian I know) that doesn't make me cringe.

I only ever met Brian once. It was a moment I had imagined and rehearsed a million times in my head. When the moment came to speak with him, I simply said, "Your music has helped me through some very difficult times in my life, and I wanted to thank you for that." to which Brian seemed moved by and then added, "Well I hope it helped you through the good times as well!"
It was perfect.

This passive-agressive approach by VDP is wearing thin. Why doesn't he deal with the problem head-on isntead of this constant woe-is-me whining? Seems pretty childish to me.

Interersting to read this thread. In 2011 I assembled as-complete-as-possible session tapes from the various sources. TSS had sections that were not on SOT and vice versa. I never got around to putting the finished tracks on CD, They still reside on the memory stick I was using during the obsessive project.
Some highlights of my efforts: Over 25 minutes of Fire with nearly every take accounted for, the remake H&V tag with Carl providing vocals. H&V and DYLW featuring much longer session running time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Usher at his home in January 1987. He told me that he and Brian wrote the track Let's Go to Heaven in My Car, which was a combination of two songs Brian was tinkereing with, and that they had recorded a demo of it the day before in the home studio at Gary's house. Gary Usher Jr. supplied the guitar solo on the track. The version which was later differed minimally to the demo track I heard (along with Spirit of Rock and Roll, Just Say No, and one other track I can't remember the title of).

This is definitely Brian's moment. I hope he really basks in the limelight.
Unfortunately, there's a twit over on the IMDB discussion forum who has taken huge offence to Brian being referred to as "America's Greatest Songwriter". They then listed a whole list of artists whom they percieved as being slapped in the face by such a description of Brian. Trouble is: most of the folk on that list have gone on record praising Brian's talen and in some cases agreeing with the "Greatest" title. Too funny watching this bad attituded idiot writhe and wriggle.
