Considering they never bothered to either release nor properly market such a niche album reissue product, they cant exactly make comparisons. Hawthorne was a rarities package, not an established album with bonus tracks. Heck, if Sandman by Harry Nilsson can warrant such effort, so can Holland. IMHO of course.
Then again, a website where one could download such extras wouldn't be a bad idea...imagine a central location for all Beach Boys material. The mind boggles.

...and that for some reason makes me feel shafted as a fan. When I look at the superb bonus cuts which would have supplemented the single albums, I find whoever decided AGAINST such a concept to be somewhat short sighted. Then again the BB world seems to be replete with dumb ass decision making which makes bunts instead of grand slams for the most part. Just my 2 cents and with an old motto of BBA as modified by AGD many moons ago "Without Fear or Favour, nor any great regards to accuracy either!"

bgas, I'll see what I can do. While Betamax had better image quality than VHS (film still looks quite good), but as the machine was pre-hifi audio, the audio track is fairly sub-par. Alot of hiss and quality worse than an audio cassette. Also, are you in the US or Europe?

I remember the fire helmets (still have 1 or 2 myself), but never saw the poster. The "Mooger" handle comes from the days when clever names were all the rage, and I haven't bother going to my real name. These days though I have reverted to my birth surname of "Steven-Boniecki" rather than that of my Step-Dad. Also, I have moved into writing about space exploration rather than music.

Are we discussing the author behind the "Remember The Zoo" article as collected in Kingsley Abbott's Back To The Beach collection ?
Nope. That author was I, (Dwight Cavanagh) and I first read the erroneous "Zoo" material in the liner notes to the 1991 Lost and Found CD (see http://albumlinernotes.com/Lost___Found___61-_62_.html to read exactly where this information is culled from). Contrary to what is written, I am Australian not New Zealander. The article from the book was originally written as an article in BBA regarding the recording of Pet Sounds. I am not, nor was I ever "The Correct Perspective". The one good thing from that whole SNAFU is that I learned to verify any facts via three independant sources prior to publishing it as fact. Or to correctly credit the source of such claims. "Johnny Come-lately alleges that "Remember the Zoo? is..." is preferable to "Remember the Zoo is..." when such revolutionary "facts" are concerned.

I would really love a blu-ray release. Don't care about color, though. Given the material was shot on 800 line HD TV gear, that would be just dandy in HD. With the remastering that went into the DVD, I can only imagine how nice the picture would look.

I honestly don't mind the contra statements regarding the album. After all, we are all Friends here. Bah dum pah.
I didn't particularly like it when I first got it all those years ago. However, there is something about it that breathes. It is like a cool breeze on a hot summer's day. It most certainly doesn't have the impact of Smile, but it does have something - to my ears anyway. Much like "A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night" it bucks the current musical trends of the day and does its own thing.

This record has really grown on me since I bought it 3 decades ago. From start to finish I can see why Brian felt it was his personal favorite. There's just something about it. When BWPS arrived I had a big drive ahead of me on the day of delivery. I loaded that, Sgt Peppers, Wild Honey and Friends to see how the alternate timeline would have sounded had Smile come out as planned (I know BWPS isn't the 67 version, but you get the idea). Amazingly it was a musical feast that fit together so well I still recall the Euphoria. I also vividly thinking that Friends would have bookended the musical direction of Brian no matter which timeline occurred, as it really is music to cool off with. The longer Meant For You sealed it for me.

I'd say withdrawing from Monterey Pop did more to damage their image than anything else in their career. Right at the point where they could have won over the crowd in a single swoop, they back out, and loudly project the image that they were phoneys unable to play their own music on stage.
I never, ever heard or read anything calling them phoneys. Uncool yes, but not phoney. Is this just your opinion or has this been stated in articles? I am certain I read it somewhere that they were phoneys because they couldnt perform their songs live. It also tied in with the use of studio musicians. I cannot for the life of me recall where I read it.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Harry Nilsson: The RCA Albums Collection (17 CDs!!!)

The thing with this set that really floored me was the quality of the remastering. I was hearing stuff on Schmilsson that I hadn't heard before. Or on Knilsson I was amazed by the clarity. The bonus recordings are awesome as well. This year was a bonus year for stuff I like, MiC, RCA Nilsson, and Flash Harry. Along with the Nilsson biography and the Abba book which I got yesterday, along with Carnival of Sound by Jan and Dean. Music all the way for me now.
